So What’s Your Motive for Migrating?

Being motivated and having clear goals will certainly help you on your way to being successful in your new life in Australia. The only trouble is when it comes to identifying our motives we seem to get a little confused and tend to look back at what we want to escape from as opposed to the future and a new life.

You really need to be setting yourself more positive motives’ looking back at what you are leaving is a little negative. To understand what I mean by a positive and a negative motive take a look at the reasons below, which have been given as motives for migrating.

• I want escape the cold weathe
• It’s too expensive to live heren • I hate the English summe
• Its just to crowdedn • I hate the traffic jamsn • This country has so few opportunities for my family

Some of them may sound familiar to you and I have to admit some of the motives I can sympathise with as they went through my mind before I migrated. However, if you look carefully at the motives above they are not really reasons to migrate to Australia or anywhere else for that matter. They are, in fact, simply reasons for leaving your present country. You are motivating yourself to leave your home but they give you nothing to aim for in the future.

Many migrants flounder when they arrive in their new country after the holiday mood wears off. They feel a little lost because they have no real goal to aim for in their new country. The trick is to turn your motives around, start to look at what you want to achieve in your new life rather than what you are escaping from in your present one. Change them round so they create a positive impression of your new country like these:

• In Australia I will enjoy a warmer climaten • Australia has lots of opportunities for my familyn • In Australia I will have a larger home and more space for my family

These are just examples. but believe me, you will find this exercise one of the most rewarding ones you do and if answered honestly it will be your most powerful ally when the going gets tough. Write your positive motives for migrating down on paper. Maybe add a picture of your new country or maybe your dream home for more impact then put it somewhere where you can see it.

Migration is a once in a life time achievement, the ones who it achieve are so lucky to have that opportunity so be positive and grab yours!
