Lactose intolerance is an uncomfortable condition caused by an allergy to dairy products. The symptoms most associated with this allergy include eczema, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, weight gain, cramps, congestion, and even ear infections. However, since 50% of all food reactions happen in a delayed-onset manner—meaning, symptoms may not appear until 4, 10, or even 18 hours later-- people might not immediately realize that lactose intolerance is their problem. Once they do, they find themselves eliminating many of their favorite foods from their diet.

The traditional medical community has always treated lactose intolerance as a permanent condition. In fact, there is a whole industry built around this premise: products without dairy, lactose-free milk products; articles telling us that living without dairy is not the end of the world, dairy-free cookbooks, and other resources offering suggestions on how can live a healthy life without milk. This is big business: approximately 50 millio
Americans experience a symptom after consuming a dairy product, and according to a recent USA Today article, 60% adults worldwide cannot digest cow’s milk. Despite this mountain of “evidence”, however, my clinical experience tells me that lactose intolerance does not have to be permanent. And I'm not alone in this view; in fact, I am joined by more than 10,000 healthcare practitioners, including medical doctors, who utilize the NAET approach for allergy elimination.

NAET—or, Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques-- is a non-invasive, holistic procedure that reprograms the body so that it no longer reacts to food allergens. I've had patients whose blood tests indicated an allergy to casein, which is the protein in milk, or simply an allergy to milk in general. After completion of their NAET treatments, I would often wait six months before doing a follow-up blood test. These tests often showed no allergy to casein, or milk! Even when the allergy did show, it was not as strong as before the treatment. I believe the fact that it was present at all means only that some people take more time to heal at the cellular blood level.

The following story is typical of my success rate with NAET. A 51 year-old African-American woman who had been lactose intolerant her entire life came to my office. She occasionally enjoyed some cheese, but the inevitable discomfort afterward had forced her to cut many of her favorite foods from her diet. To her delight, I told her that I could reprogram her body so that she would be able to tolerate dairy product without consequences. She eagerly consented to the treatment, and after several sessions, she was able to enjoy milk, yogurt, chocolate, ice cream and pizza without any reaction.

While I wholeheartedly believe in the benefits of NAET, my intention is not to promote any specific technique; rather, it is to debunk the myth that lactose intolerance has to be a lifelong condition. Doris Rapp, MD a pioneer in the field, has been using homeopathic methods to treat children’s food allergies for over thirty years. She describes these methods in her fascinating New York Times bestseller, Is This Your Child?

I have also had great success in treating toddlers and infants. I can't influence a baby with suggestions. I can't make a baby believe me about the benefits of NAET. The fact that I am able to eliminate their symptoms indicates that the treatment is not a placebo or manipulation of some sort, but a holistic process that works!

Does the NAET technique alter a person's DNA? That remains to be seen. However, given the incredible results that I and other NAET practitioners have had, I do know that you can have ice cream and pizza without consequences!
