As far as the time that you are going to be visiting the state, this is going to depend largely on your own personal likes and dislikes. There are four seasons in Minnesota, giving you the opportunity to enjoy almost any type of weather on your vacation. Many people, however, come to the area in October to enjoy the fall colors that are available in the state. It is important to note, if you do plan on spending your vacation in Minnesota to see the fall colors, you need to plan very carefully so that you get the right weekend for the peak colors.
Many people are also surprised with the number of Minnesota state parks that are available. These can offer you almost any type of recreation that you could possibly want, from fishing all the way to hiking and even just sightseeing. The state parks tend to be scattered across the state and some of them are smaller than others, so again, careful planning is going to be necessary. Be sure that you also check for any information that may be available on park hours or other issues which could keep you from enjoying the full range of options that are available.
Are you somebody that enjoys fishing? In Minnesota, you have some of the best freshwater fishing that is available in any part of the country. Many people are taking fishing Minnesota vacations in order to enjoy the fishing for trout, small-mouth bass, large-mouth bass, northern pike and pan fish. That isn't even to mention the state fish of Minnesota, the walleye. If you are familiar with this type of fishing, you may be able to strike out on your own but if you really want to enjoy everything that the state has to offer on the water, hire a guide to be with you on your vacation. This will allow you to get into areas that may not be available to the general public.
