It is very important to take good care of your oral health; however, there are a lot of erroneous beliefs and misconceptions about health, dental care and dentists which create negative impacts on the dental health. Some of these beliefs are not true and needed to be verified first before believing. Many believe that it is better to brush more using hard bristles. It is not true because brushing in long periods can cause your tooth enamel wear out. Just limit your brushing time to 3 minutes. Using hard bristled brush may result in roughness on the surface of the teeth, exposure on the sensitive layer and receding gums form the root. Many also believe that decay in baby teeth is not a problem because it will be replaced by permanent teeth. Many believe that the use of teeth to open cans of soft drinks or break hard things is a proof of teeth’s strength and hardness. This is wrong because it may lead to cracks in the enamel. The teeth tend to be broken or become sensitive if you use it for this purpose. Many also believe that brushing with salt whitens your teeth. This is again not true because salt is abrasive and could harm your enamel.
