If you work in Search engine optimization then there is no getting away from the fact that things evolve quickly. You have to constantly learn within this industry if you want to even keep up with the competitors, let alone stay a measure ahead. Now that we are a month or two into the calendar year, we're starting to see a few patterns and it has to be said that there are not many surprises. We've noticed though that Page Rank is turning into even less reliable as a source of deciding how good a site is. Naturally most Seo staff were aware of this situation last year, but it is becoming more of an issue now. The difficulty is not having to recognise this. The tricky part is contacting your client and trying to sell them the benefits of a web page which doesn't have great page rank when they are used to rating sites in this way. The relevance of the site is the most important thing when it comes to gaining links, but the hard thing is explaining this to clients! The focus this year should be on client contact. You must understand what they want, and ensure that they have an understanding of how you are going about achieving good results for them. If you can't explain why you are doing what you are doing for your client, it is going to be difficult for them to understand why you are doing it. You will serve yourself well by taking the time to explain to your client what page rank means and why it is no longer as relevant as it once was. Depending on the client this might be a difficult discussion to have, but it will be well worth your while when you can present sites to your client which perhaps don't have a very high page rank. Once you have a client that understands exactly what you are trying to achieve, you will find that their bit of new found knowledge will enable them to feel more in control of their campaign, which will allow you to focus on doing your job. This year the best way forward in terms of Search engine optimization is complete transparency. This of course goes for both your client and the search engines. Of all the things you need to do this year you will be ok if you keep in mind these three things. The first is to do the best for you client, the second is to educate your clients in the world of Search engine optimization, and the third is selling them your ideas based on what they now know about the industry.
