Monuments of Interest in Alicante

Alicante City Hall: Alicante City Hall is an amazing monument, which has its roots to the 17th century. This marvelous building was constructed on the plans of Lorenzo Chapuli and this building is among the finest examples of civic baroque. The construction of building was started in 1701 and it was completed in the year 1780. The façade of the building is fifty centimeter long, there are 2 identical towers with a dome in the centre and the erection of these domes is on portico from where you can access the building. The middle entrance of the building has columns which are twisted and there is a back door which opens up in to Plaza de la Faz, where you will find some best collection of the sculptures made of stone. Cota Cero is located at the bottom of the main stairs and this is used to measure the sea level in Spain. Santa Barbara Castle: This castle, which still exists, is famous for being the biggest fortress of the medieval times in Europe. This fortress is located on the Benacantil Mountain and covers most of the area and slopes of the mountain. You can have great views of the Alicante city, bay, nearest farmlands, sea and the neighboring towns from the top of this fortress. This fortress has reserves of a great history, as you will find many footprints of the previous civilizations who ruled this place, including Romans, Iberians and Muslims. Santa Barbara Castle is divided into three portions and at the peak part of the fortress you will find the Governor House, Noble Room and the preserved residuals of the old civilizations. The middle part of the fortress has preserved some great work belonging to the 16th century including Guards’ Room, Felipe II’s Room, Forecourt and the Bulwark of Queen. The last part of the fortress was completed in the 18th century and you will find the monuments of this century in this part of the fortress. Garden Panteon de Quijano: This garden is among the last romantic parks in the location espagne piscine, constructed in the years 1855-57, and it has kept a funerary mound in the centre and the remains of Trino Gonzalez, the governor who died during the epidemic breakout in 1854.
