I was introduced to this gem of a cookbook for many years in a friend's house. I love browsing through cookbooks, collections of people - there is always at least one or two recipes just begging to be discovered - and I found a nice simple book. The cover was a bit tattered from wear and tear in recent years, which is always the first book to be reached in order - clearly there was a reason my friend uses this book so much. It was called "Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home: quick and easy recipes for any day," and I've had since then (I had to buy mine, of course, my friend refused to part with their copy.). First - and most importantly - the recipes are totally delicious. All have their origins in the simplicity - the basic ingredients, basic preparation. This makes it a very accessible book that a beginner can easily grasp cook a. Most recipes consist of a few vegetables, fat one, and perhaps a carbohydrate. There is no recipe for cream of spinach soup is delicately simple but also unique. There is also the "tomaticán" made with tomatoes, corn and beans. I could go on but I do not want to spoil anything. These come from the restaurant's chef Mollie Katzen, Moosewood, Ithaca, NY. It is a great gift given to us, as many cooks keep their secret recipes. This is what makes this cookbook so great: he wants you to become a better cook, and cook over yourself. Beyond the intrinsic value of a book full of good recipes, the book is itself a beautiful work of art. Each page, the prescription, and the word is written by hand. She is everything that shows itself. It feels less like a ploy to make money and increase the number, and more like a labor of love. Each page is different, and one could spend hours looking over the way she puts the text and image, and how they play and in conflict with each other. This book is highly recommended for anyone looking to expand their culinary horizons while not busting the bank or burning too long in the process. Specifically, vegetarians will enjoy this cookbook, offering a plethora of ways to use vegetables in a unique way, giving them new tastes and textures that you may have, were not possible before. Fair warning to those who are offended by the flesh, however, that there are some recipes that include fish. Just thumb the latter, however, and enjoy all the knowledge, tips and delicious recipes that Moosewood has to offer.
