More Texans Are Getting Older Faster
About 5,600,000 people in Texas belong to the 55 to 64 age group according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In 2006 more than half of this population turned 60 years old so by now, these 60-year-olds would’ve turned 65 and probably retired from their longtime jobs already; if they didn’t decide to extend their working years to afford Texas long term care.
Long term care is an issue for anyone on the brink of losing everything, which took him so many years to acquire, to the prohibitive cost of care. Texas is the second largest state so it is not surprising that it has the most number of people who have long past the age of 65.
Now these 65-year-olds comprise 9.9 percent of the state’s total population and this percentage is projected to increase 11.7 percent by 2015, adds the U.S. Census.
If you still don’t get the whole point of counting the elderly individuals in your place, the reason is simple: The probability that more people in Texas will require long term care (LTC) is high so people as young as 50 or even 40 should start planning their future health care requirements.
It pays to know the state’s average cost of care in a nursing home, community-based LTC facility such as an assisted living facility, and at home. However, those individuals who analyze the rates of various LTC settings in their exact area of residence, and those situated in cities or towns in proximity will benefit more.
Being clueless is never helpful especially in a country where inflation always beats people’s total income. It is always good to keep oneself up-to-date with the latest issues to avoid falling behind. Not knowing how much you’ll need to spend for care, if ever you’ll need it someday, is a shortcut to suicide.
Plan for Texas Long Term Care or Give Up Everything
Before you can come up with an effective LTC plan you should be able to picture yourself in the future first. Are you going to be very sick like come down with a life-threatening illness? Or perhaps, will you just need assistance with eating, bathing, dressing up and other activities of daily living (ADL) as you see yourself living to a hundredth year?
How you imagine yourself 40 or 50 years from now will determine the type of LTC coverage that you will need. Of course, it is not wise to just guess what type of LTC setting you’ll need someday. Your plan should have a strong basis.
For instance, your family’s health record shows that there is not a single person who died of a chronic illness. If not a road mishap, simply old age took the lives of the ones you love. Now this information has a good and an ugly side.
Starting with the good, your risk of acquiring a debilitating disease is low. Countercheck your lifestyle though as some people have the tendency to abuse their bodies and thus they end up with a serious health condition.
On the other hand, the ugly side of a longer life expectancy is the higher risk for care. Older people are more susceptible to geriatric diseases so don’t wait for one to befall you. Start planning your Texas long term care today. If not, you can start spending down your assets as you’re most likely to need Medicaid.
