Cannabis consumption used to be greatly demonized in the past. Because of certain aspects, like Richard Nixon declaring the War on Drugs in 1971 and the misrepresentation of cannabis by Hollywood movies like Reefer Madness (1936), cannabis use was labeled as inappropriate. However, today more than a quarter of the US population lives in a state which has legalized cannabis, a feat which was unthinkable ten years ago. Actually, Uruguay was the first country in the world to legalize cannabis use in 2013 and was promptly followed by Canada, which legalized it in October 2018. Currently, 11 states in the US have decided to legalize cannabis use along with Washington, DC. One of the main reasons for legalizing it was due to numerous cannabis health pros. There are tons of ways that cannabis can be used to cure certain symptoms and conditions which threaten a person’s mental or physical state. Here are some health benefits that everybody should be aware of. Relieves Chronic Pain Many people in the world suffer from chronic pain affecting some parts of their bodies. 25 million people alone in the US have some type of chronic pain issue. Traditional medicine can help but in most cases, it boils down to patients using pain relief drugs, which can lead to addiction. Luckily, there is a safer and much healthier way to get rid of chronic pain. Cannabis use has proven to be highly effective when it comes to relieving any kind of pain. Products that contain cannabinoids, the active ingredient of cannabis, have a chemical makeup that can remove pain, even completely in some instances. Helps with Depression and Social Anxiety Mental health illnesses are no joke. People who are suffering from mental health disorders and go undiagnosed, not getting the help they need, can endure devastating effects on their wellbeing. Depression statistics from around the world show that it is one of the most common problems that people suffer from in modern society. However, certain studies have revealed that cannabis use can help people who suffer from depression. It has even been effective in removing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. Social anxiety is another modern disease that affects a lot of people. Introverts have a higher chance of having these problems, which in drastic cases can lead to more serious mental problems. However, cannabis use has shown to be effective in removing those symptoms and has treated these types of cases. Effective in Fighting Cancer Certain studies have suggested that cannabis is highly effective when treating cancer. Of course, nobody can suggest that it can cure it completely but it still has a certain beneficial effect. For instance, oral use of cannabinoids has proven to be useful in reducing nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy treatment. Certain studies even suggest that it can also work if one smokes it. Other medical researchers have found evidence that cannabinoids have the ability to slow down the growth of cancer cells. In some rare instances, it has been suggested that cannabis can even kill some cancer cells, but only from certain types of cancers. Although further studies still need to be conducted on this matter, the bottom line is that the effects that cannabis offers have a lot of potential in fighting the greatest enemy of humankind today. In Conclusion As you can see, cannabis is a useful remedy for curing or alleviating certain issues. Additional studies reveal that the cannabis plant has a lot more potential than we have still not been able to comprehend. Now that more and more states are making cannabis use legal, the potential is limitless. Of course, if you decide to try cannabis so as to deal with an issue, do be reminded to consult with your doctor first. Cannabis is one wonderful plant, but people don’t have identical reactions to its advantages.
