Mumbai city’s students set out to transform the state

Mumbai city, the capital city of Maharashtra which is also called as the city of dreams. It is the ideal destination for everyone in the country to learn and kick start their career in any stream whether it is in film industry, fashion, corporate jobs and many other type of work. The metropolitan city stands in the first position when it comes to infrastructure, job opportunities etc. It also acts as cosmopolitan capital of the country as it’s known to set new trends in the market. With new buildings being built every day, good connectivity with frequent bus transportation facilities like buses, trains and metro rail projects have escalated the demand of the city and have attracted many home and property buyers. The increase in the facilities has increased the cost of living. This increase in property and rental pricing has created difficulty for the middle class residents to find an apartment at an affordable rates. So the government has planned to bring up a solution by building affordable housing for the residents especially for the lower middle class and middle class. rnNew ideas keep emerging all over the city especially by the youngsters as they try to uplift the city. Also the Maharashtra state government is doing its part and the effect of the improvement of Mumbai city can be seen at many places. For example - an initiative called Transform Maharashtra launched by ACT that is the Action for collective Transformation is formed with the help of the government few young socio – entrepreneurs. The main aim of this organization is to solve socio – economic issues faced by the state of Maharashtra. So because of this initiative many students in Mumbai are getting encouraged, to come up with ideas by participating in a competition where they can bring out suggestions and solutions for the eleven socio – economic issues of the state. Policy interventions can be suggested by them for issues like rural development, transportation, drought control, making the city a smart city and many other aspects out of which, the students can choose one of the topics and present their ideas. The winning team will be selected and will be allowed to present their idea in front of the chief minister and if the suggestion is good, the government will see how it can be implemented. In the process of implementing the ideas, the government will include the team members as well. This initiative has prompted and encouraged students of the colleges all over Mumbai city and they have started sending their suggestions. One of the suggestions to the government by a group of students is to get a fund set up for investments at a lower interest rate for the start – ups in Maharashtra. Funding is always a problem for entrepreneurs when they try to set up a business and initially the only source of funding is from friends and family but this idea. If implemented this can help many young entrepreneurs. Many other ideas regarding reducing the waste problems, building energy efficient homes on large scale etc. have been suggested.
