Murudeshwar is the pilgrimage region and a beautiful holy place, has recently came into importance as one of the adorable places in Karnataka. The small town of Murudeshwar is the home to a large Shiva temple, is also home to a ample Muslim and Christian population. This is trulya lay village and people of this small town live in harmony. The place is sacred by a piece of the Pranalinga of Mahabaleshwara and has some scenic sculptures and statues. Bounded by the shimmering sea and rolling hills, the place is a popular picnic spot. Murudeshwara Temple is the main tourist attraction that is located between Honnavar and Bhatkal. This temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and has a large statue along with a Shivalinga. The statue of Lord Shiva is built within the temple complex and is one of the biggest in India. It was built in two years and stands at height of nearly 23 ft. One can get into Murudeshwar from the Bhatkal-Honnavar National Highway through a peculiarly upright big entrance graced with complex carvings. Murudeshwar symbolizes the past honor of Hinduism. It is centered on the glorious Murudeshwar temple atop a hillock spotting the Arabian Sea. Bounded by the rolling hills and shimmering sea, Murudeshwar is the kind of place which makes you look at life and what it means to you. The sea is an integral part of the temple stalk at Murudeshwar. The sea surrounds the temple eminent on the small hill called Kanduka Giri on 3 sides. A huge 15 m statue of Shiva towers over the town and has an irresistible presence. The statue, which is only a 2 year old, is in a complex, which comprehends the 500-year-old Shiva temple. One is recognized with the captivating beauty of the surroundings as one reaches the top of the hillock. The huge stretches of silvery sands with the Sahyadri mountains framed into the background, the coconut trees dancing to the melodies of the waves, rose of boats dancing and floating towards the shore, the sun looking like a ball of fire just before the sunset and then sinking into the sea - all figure out a magic spell and make the viewers forget themselves. Murudeshwara has beaches and activities like snorkeling holiday packages , swimming, boat rides, etc. Possibilities for trekking are available at Yana, towards the peaks of the Sahyadri ranges at Mohini Shikhara and Bhairaveshwara Shikhara. From Murudeshwara outings can be taken to destinations like Karwar, Sirsi, Gokarna, Udupi, Kollur, Mangalore, Subramanya, Dharmasthala etc. There is also a huge fort behind the temple considered to be renewed by Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore tour package . Mangalore International Airport is the closest airport which is nearly 65 km away from Murudeshwar. It is well linked to other Indian cities and foreign countries holidays . Nearest railway station is Murudehwara. Only some trains from Mangalore and Mumbai stops Murudeshwara. Mangalore is a main railway junction, which is adjoined to all major cities in India. Murudeshwar is also well connected with bus services from other cities. Private deluxe bus services are available from Bangalore to Murudeshwar.
