Music in Perfume Reviews

Authors of video perfume reviews often start their clips with images of the fragrance bottle, along with a short piece of music. In most of the cases, that music is somehow related to the fragrance and it can be used for describing the scent in a different manner. In another interpretation, that music is what people wearing that specific perfume should listen to. rnWhen it comes to the musical taste of the fragrance reviews, it really seems that each of them has chosen a different path. Some authors of perfume reviews opt for R’n’B, while others prefer rock (and even metal) or classical music. In the vision of the reviewer, the music chosen for the background of the video is defining and even equivalent to the olfactory impression left by the scent. There are even cases when different reviewers decide to use music from different genres for the same perfume. As no two people smell the same and no two people hear or feel the music in the same way, such things are not only permitted, but also encouraged. rnIn other cases, authors of perfume reviews choose songs created by the same celebrities who made the scent. Numerous pop and hip-hop singers chose to dive into the world of perfumes, but it might be a bit too much to say that they are the ones who created the fragrance bearing their name. In the majority of the cases, they get in touch with a perfumer or with a perfume company and describe what they would like to offer to their public. From here on, they may or may not be offered several samples to choose from. The final result is at least supposed to be a natural continuation of the artist’s lyrics and of the state of mind triggered by the songs. rnThe connection between music and perfumes is not the only bridge between the olfactory delights and the world of art. For example, Rammstein’s “Du Riechts So Gut” (You Smell So Good) is said to be inspired from Patrick Suskind’s “Perfume”, which is a book that anybody who loves fragrances should read. That song refers to the inner thoughts of the predator as he chases the prey, thing that can also be transposed in the world of scents. Fragrances reviews are frequently seen as means of attracting the opposite sex, and the parallel to predators and preys is not really out of place.
