The time has come to select a school and all you want to do is work in the music production field. There are plenty of music production schools that offer the education that you need to make it in this business.
The Types of Majors
Most schools have a few majors that you can choose from. You can go to school to be an audio engineer, radio producer, assistant sound technician, promoter, and sound engineer. The possibilities are truly endless, because this education is more than appreciated in the music industry as a whole.
What are you going to learn?
The curriculum is pretty intense, but it is all worth it in the end. You are going to have hands on education that enlightens you to many things. Experience learning audio recording from the best out there. If you are into live sound production, then you will be learning that, too. Broadcast production and audio for video are both also what you will be learning within that spectrum. There will be a wonderful learning experience that is well rounded to provide you not just musical education. Once all is said and done, you will be able to record and produce all types of sound.
Spend your time in high school making good decisions and continue that behavior throughout college. There should be no reason to fail as long as you are willing to put in the work.
Picking the best school:
The hardest decision and the most important would be selecting the school that is best suited for you. There are several colleges that have great programs and then there are ones that you should just turn around and walk away from. High quality degrees are important, especially in this economic climate. People are seeking out the best candidates to hire. To say it in a nicer way, it is best for you to take the time to select a really decent school. In fact, here's hoping you have a few more years until then so you can build up a proper portfolio and academic resume. So, try to avoid schools with poor reviews. Consider the alumni and how successful people are after they graduate. Also consider the fact that having a degree will not magically make you famous, you need the talent and work ethic to really get through all of it.
Your high school education is important, so keep up with your grades. Take time out of your day to join music related clubs. Many high schools even have music classes that are devoted to this technology. Build up your high school resume. If you are younger, you can start whenever you want. There are plenty of programs such as band that can also be good for a resume. This will give you the fuel you need to get into your dream school. Music production schools only seem like a dime a dozen, but it could not be furthest from the truth. Keep this in mind when applying for schools.
