China has long been a premier travel destination for people who want to experience Asia’s rich history and culture, but it’s not the only country worth visiting in the Far East. Southeastern Asia is home to some of the world’s most beautiful locations including undiscovered gems like Vietnam and Cambodia. Although distinctly different, both nations are situated in a region known for friendly locals, stunning natural scenery, delicious cuisine and exciting architecture. After decades of being left untouched by tourism, Vietnam is quickly becoming one of the most popular travel destinations in all of Asia. Bordered by China to the north and Laos and Cambodia to the west, Vietnam is in the perfect location for tourists who want to visit several Asian countries. Although crossing over to other parts of Asia is easy and convenient, you don’t necessarily need to include them in your itinerary to have an unforgettable adventure if you want to see several parts of Vietnam in one trip instead. From the bustle and hustle of Hanoi in the north to the pristine tropical beaches of the south, Vietnam offers a glimpse into both a timeless tropical paradise unmarred by civilization and a rapidly changing urban landscape of Southeast Asia. Although also a standout travel destination on its own, Cambodia can be easily reached through its border crossing with Vietnam. Much like Vietnam, Cambodia’s turbulent history has prevented it from experiencing the tourism boom that other countries in the region have benefited from in the last several years. Today, Cambodian tourism is on the rise as travelers are spreading the word about the country’s rich culture, ancient architecture and breathtaking natural scenery. One of the best known regions in Cambodia, Siem Reap, is visited by thousands of travelers every year. The city’s close proximity to the famous Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, makes it particularly appealing to travelers who want to explore a world-famous ancient spiritual site and experience a contemporary Cambodian city. If you only have the time to visit one country, it’s hard to recommend the one you should choose. Cambodia and Vietnam are unlike any other destinations in the world. From idyllic beaches to ancient architecture and lively open-air markets, both countries offer some of the best attractions in all of Southeast Asia. Because Cambodia and Vietnam have tourism industries that are still developing, travelers can experience comfortable accommodations and the region’s most famous attractions at bargain prices. The area’s temperate climate makes it a perfect location for tourism throughout the year. If you want to experience one of the most fascinating and beautiful regions in the world, adding Southeast Asia to your travel list is a must.
