The Editorial Staff at Intent has asked me to give my view re: What is Wellness? Many years ago in my late teens I suffered from a life threatening eating disorder. Through therapy, much hard work, and reforming a supportive network of people I was able to reconstruct my life—Healthfully. When I finally became well enough to begin living life fully, I made a promise to myself and to God that I would devote my adult life to helping others become well (or healthy) too. It’s why I choose nursing and physical medicine through my advanced degrees as my life career. Simply put Wellness is about "Making Healthy A Lifestyle", which is the name of my newly launched E-Magazine at www.LindaLaRue.com/club/index.html. It's how you live your life—meaning what you eat, what you drink, what you do to your body, your job, what you buy, where you live, and the people you choose to surround you. It's what you feel, think, do, write, and say. Wellness or a healthy lifestyle ranges from the little things in life, such as recycling, trying to buy organic food, using paper not plastic shopping bags, and curbing your consumerism. It's making sure you exercise and keep your body in reasonable shape and maintain a reasonably healthy weight as diseases of obesity (now classified as Metabolic Syndrome) effect your physical wellness and may cost much in terms of productivity and money to everyone. We have a new eloquent President who has given us a mandate to take greater responsibility for our economy, our government, and ourselves. I believe keeping ourselves well is a good place to begin living a more healthful life while helping to restore our country, and the rest of our planet too. For me wellness is making healthy a lifestyle, which has been my mission and my life's passion. Helping then, seeing people become healthier or “more wellerer” makes my heart happy.
