If you are someone who suffers from or has suffered from migraine headaches, you know how painful and debilitating they can be. There are some natural remedies that may aid you and keep you away from having to take medications. First, we are all individuals so we can't all expect the same results. There might be a natural alte ative for migraine headaches that may work for one person and not for the other. This doesn't mean you should give up on natural alte atives to relieving your migraine headaches as their are several methods that just may be what you have searching for. Chiropractic Adjustment This natural method of getting a chiropractic adjustment may not be at first thought of but has become a very popular treatment for migraine headaches. Studies have shown that as much as 80% of people with migraines have found some relief by going to a chiropractor. One of the benefits of using this natural treatment is the fact that is safe. Many migraine headaches are caused from spinal problems so correcting these problems with a chiropractor has given many headache sufferers relief. Biofeedback and Tension Relieving Methods Another natural method to battle migraines is with a training program called biofeedback. This program is designed to give the migraine headache sufferer the ability to have control of their autonomic(involuntary) nervous system. With this program a person can control what are normally automatic functions such as heart rate, skin temperature, blood pressure, and the relaxation of their often tense muscles. Having tight muscles from stress can lead to muscle tension which may be a contributor to causing migraine headaches. If the muscles in the neck are tense, it could be a possible cause for the headache. This is where Biofeedback can be helpful as the migraine headache patient can control certain bodily functions, such as the ability to put your muscles in a relaxation state. Relaxing the muscle will lessen the muscle tension and can help to reduce and relieve the migraine headaches. Besides the biofeedback training, there are other ways to relieve tension. Such other methods as taking a warm bath or shower, placing something cold on the back of the neck, lying down in a quiet dark room, or getting a neck message should all relieve tension. Participating in a regular exercise routine will also reduce tension. All these natural methods are just some ways to possibly reduce tension causing migraine headaches. Eliminating Certain Foods Most people do not realize that food allergies or the sensitivity to certain foods can be a major cause of their migraine headaches. Some of these foods such as, nuts, beans, cheese, alcohol, monosodium glutamate (a food additive), caffeine, onions, and chocolate can all cause migraine headaches. Salt is also known to be a cause of headaches especially when taking in high amounts. When a food causes a headache it is known as a "trigger". If you are one of the many people who have food sensitivities, finding what is causing the "trigger" to the migraine headaches is going to take a little work. To find out which foods are the culprits to the migraine headaches, a food diary is going to be the best method. Each page of the diary should represent one day. Three columns are needed for the hours, foods eaten, and write down headache in the third column when you get one. Logging everything you have eaten and when you have eaten it will give you the documentation needed to see if there is a pattern. This is going to take a few weeks but it can be very helpful. You may be able to notice that the migraine headaches are happening after eating a certain food. You may also notice that it may be by only eating this food at a certain time that will be causing the migraine headaches. This method takes a little work but if it is going to eliminate the problem, then it is well worth it. Another great thing about the food diary is you may be able to tell if it is a certain ingredient in some foods that is causing the headache. This may be beneficial because you may be able to continue to eat something that is listed as causing the headache by eliminating that ingredient in the food or replacing it with something else. Conclusion If you are one of the millions who suffer from migraine headaches and are looking for an alte ative to medications, there are some natural methods that may help. Give these natural methods a try and hopefully put an end to your migraine headaches. Exercise and Nutrition Tips
