In few severe cases, surgeryis the only way to cure the anal fistula. Although the natural remedies for anal fistula can manage this problem. In Anal fistula there is the formation small channel between the end of the bowel and the skin near the anus. Open sores in the skin around anus cause the burning and sharp pain during the bowel movement.

Those people have the problem of constipation are at a higher risk of anal fistula. Though, there are various diseases like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, straining during childbirth, tight anal sphincter muscles, a sexually transmitted infection, persistent diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease IBD which are also responsible for this anal fistula. People with this problem usually experience these symptoms like severe, itching sharp pain and bleeding when you pass stools. Red blood in the stools and on toilet paper is also observed.

1. Aloe Vera

Aloe is known to be an effective natural remedy to cure the anal fistula. Aloe vera is loaded with the healing and pain-relieving properties which help to ease the symptoms of anal fistula.

How to Use:

  • Cut the aloe vera leaf and take the gel out of it.
  • Apply this gel on the affected area.
  • Do it 2-3 thrice in a day.

2. Hot Sitz Bath

Hot sitz bath is considered very beneficial to alleviate the irritation and discomfort associated with the anal fistula. It helps in the healing of sores and also enhances the blood supply to anal area.

How to Use:

  • Fill the bathtub with warm water.
  • Add the Epsom salt in it.
  • Sit in the bathtub up to your waist for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Take this sitz bath two times a day.

Note:

You can also apply a warm compress after bowel movements.

3. Flax seeds

Being rich in the fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, flax seeds help to resolve the constipation, which is major cause of anal fistula. Laxative property of this herb helps in easy bowel movement.

How to use:

  • Take the one tablespoon of flaxseed powder in a glass of water. Drink it daily before going to bed. This will help to regulate bowel movements.

4. Olive Oil

Olive oil comes in the category of rich healthy fats. It helps in the lubrication of bowel system and allows in the easy passing of stools. Moreover, anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil help to alleviate the pain associated with the anal fissures.

How to Use:

  • Take the equal amounts of olive oil.
  • honey and beeswax and mix in a bowl.
  • Warm this mixture in the microwave until the beeswax melts completely.
  • Leave it to cool.
  • Apply it on the affected area.
  • Repeat it two times daily.

5. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is another beneficial home remedy for anal fistula. It is rich in medium-chain triglycerides, which helps in the lubrication and healing of effected area.

How to Use:

  • Apply coconut oil to the anal sphincter two to threetimes in a day. Whereas the case of chronic anal fissures, apply coconut oil several times in a day.
  • You may add the coconut oil in your diet.
  • Raw cabbage juice – Consuming the half cup of raw cabbage juice daily helps in the softening of stools and easy passing.

6. Hygiene

To heal the anal fissures, it is important to maintain proper hygiene. Try to keep the affected area clean and dry, because moisture can increase the risk of bacterial infections.

Directions:

  • It is important to wipe the area with soft toilet paper after every bowel movement. Don’t use the rough and fragrant toilet papers, which can cause irritation.
  • Don’t wear the tight clothes. Wear loose-fitting clothing and cotton underwear so that air can circulate.

Consume the fiber rich diet which helps in the easy bowel movements and also resolves the problem of constipation.

  • Brown bread
  • Barley
  • Whole wheat pasta
  • Papaya
  • Orange
  • Apple
  • Pear
  • Wheat germ
  • Brown rice
  • Broccoli
  • Tomato
  • Onion
  • Green pepper
  • Cauliflower
  • Spinach
  • Carrot
  • Reddish

Daily consumption of papaya is very helpful to clear the bowels and avoid constipation.

Consume amla every day.

Suggestions

  • Avoid constipating foods, such as white rice, bananas, cheese and other dairy products, chocolate, large amounts of red meat, chips and fried foods.
  • Do not keep sitting the same position for prolonged period of time as it may buildup moisture in the anal area.
  • Avoid spicy and hot food items.
  • Drink plenty of water.
