Nutritional supplements can help maintain the health of your glands by ensuring proper functioning of the glandular system. All body processes depend on a healthy glandular system. A gland is an organ; like all organs, the glands need nutritional support. Especially when stress depletes the body of stored nutrients. Your glands manufacture and release substances into the body for the body’s use. A malfunction or an imbalance of any one glandular substance can create tremendous problems throughout the body. Glands fall into one of two categories. The exocrine glands and the endocrine glands. The exocrine glands open onto a surface of an organ; or other structure, through a duct. Examples of the exocrine glands include the salivary of the mouth and the sweat and oil glands of the skin. Other exocrine glands are found in the kidneys, the mammary glands and the digestive tract. The endocrine glands are ductless, thus secreting the substances they produce (hormones) directly into the bloodstream. By secreting hormones the endocrine glands help regulate nearly all bodily functions. Examples of the endocrine glands include the adrenal (atop the kidney), the pancreas (behind the stomach), the pituitary gland (at the base of the brain), the pineal gland (attached to brain), sex glands (testes/ovaries), the thymus gland (below the thyroid) and the thyroid and parathyroid glands (in the neck). Supplements: Kelp - is rich in dietary minerals and iodine which is necessary for thyroid function. Take up to 200 milligrams daily. L-Arginine - an amino acid that increases the activity and size of the thymus gland. Take 500 milligrams daily. L-Glycine - an amino acid that is essential for the health of bone marrow, spleen and the thymus gland. Take 500 milligrams daily. L-Tyrosine - an amino acid that is important to the function and health of the adrenal, thyroid and pituitary glands. Take 500 milligrams daily. Manganese - is stored and used by the brain, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas and prostate gland. It is crucial to the production of thyroxine, the hormone that regulates metabolism and is essential for normal growth and development. Take as directed on label. Silica (silicon) - aids in healing the glands and tissues. Take 500 milligrams twice daily. Vitamin A plus natural beta-carotene - nutrients that increase antibody production and nourish the thymus gland. Organs with duct systems require these nutrients. Take as directed on labels. Vitamin B complex - is especially important if you are under stress. B vitamins work best when all are taken together. Take 100 milligrams twice daily. -Plus extra riboflavin (B2) - vital to the health of the entire glandular system. Take 50 milligrams three times daily. -Plus extra pantothenic acid (B5) - known as the anti-stress vitamin. Take 50 milligrams three times daily. Vitamin C - is important for adrenal gland function. Take 1500 milligrams daily. Zinc - is needed for pancreas and thymus health and needed by the immune system. It is especially important for the sex glands. Herbal Nutrition Supplements: Burdock cleanses the bloodstream of toxins. Cedar stimulates pancreatic function. Dandelion cleanses and stimulates the liver. In addition, it stimulates bile production benefiting the spleen and improving the health of the pancreas. Echinacea cleanses and strengthens the kidneys, liver, pancreas and spleen. Gentian contains elements that are known to normalize thyroid gland function. Horsetail and oat straw are good sources of silicon and are also high in calcium. They can be taken in capsule or tea form. The herbs black cohosh, black radish extract, licorice, mullein and red clover taken in the form of tea, help strengthen and rebuild the liver and restore glandular balance. **CAUTION: Do not use licorice on a daily basis for more than seven days in a row. If you have high blood pressure - AVOID IT COMPLETELY.
