What is Ovarian Cyst
- It is the serious health complication.
- This is caused due to the imbalance of female hormones.
- The symptoms may associate with this are generally bloating, nausea, vomiting, bowel movements and pain during sex.
- An Ovarian cyst is a fluid filled sacs or pockets in an ovary or on its surface.
- A cyst is a general term which is used to describe a fluid- filled structure.
The Ovarian cyst is generally asymptomatic but sometimes pain in the pelvis and abdomen is common.
Types of Ovarian Cyst
There are two types of ovarian cyst
1. Follicle Cyst
The ovaries naturally release one egg in each month and it grows inside the tiny sac called a follicle. When the egg is ready the follicle breaks open and release it but if the sac doesn't open it causes a follicle cyst.
2. Corpus Luteum Cyst
It is less common. As the egg is released follicle shrinks to its normal size and is ready for next. When fluid is collected in follicle it becomes a cyst.It may go away in a few weeks but it may bleed and cause pain as it grows.
Ayurvedic View of Ovarian Cyst
According to Ayurveda, ovary disease is caused by problems in rasa and raktadhatus. When there is an excess accumulation of toxins and impurities in rasa and raktdhatus, the body keeps them in form of cysts in ovaries. In Ayurveda, an ovarian cyst containing a fluid is considered as kaphajagranthi. Kaphaja granthi is usually skin colored, painful and it increases the size slowly and when ruptured white, thick fluid is released. Increased kapha vitiates rasa and raktadhatus which caused an ovarian cyst.

What are the Symptoms of Ovarian Cyst?
The symptoms of ovarian cyst include
- Abdominal pain
- Abnormal and heavy menstrual bleeding
- Pain during bowel movements
- Severe menstrual cramps
- Dyspareunia (pain during sexual intercourse)
- Infertility
- Weight gain
- Feeling discomfort - menstrual cramps.
- Fast breathing
- Pain with fever and throwing up
- Sudden, severe belly pain.
What are the Causes of Ovarian Cyst ?
- History of previous ovarian cysts
- Irregular menstrual cycles
- Obesity
- Early menstruation
- Infertility
- Infertility treatment with gonadotrophins medications
- Hypothyroidism
- Tamoxifen (soltamox) therapy for breast cancer
What are the Complications Associated with Ovarian Cyst ?
- Ovarian cancer may also occur
- Enlargement of a cyst may cause dislocation of the ovary which can cause the pain.
- The Irregularity in menstrual cycle occurs.
- Frequent urge for urine.
- Ovarian torsion can occurs which makes difficult the supply of blood into ovaries this results the narcosis of ovarian cells. Ovarian cells death which leads to infertility.
- The Ruptured ovarian cyst can result in harsh internal bleeding. Internal bleeding can cause infection and can be lifelong so immediate treatment is required.
