Wouldn’t it be nice if you could always close your work day with a sigh of satisfaction, knowing that you’d accomplished everything you’d set out to do? Unfortunately, most of us struggle to finish our tasks and end up overwhelmed by all the unfinished projects still waiting for us. This doesn’t have to be the case though. You can increase your productivity and efficiency by learning how to deliberately manage your time. So if you don’t like how your usual work day goes, and you catch yourself wishing for more hours in the day these 6 productivity hacks are for you. 1. Prioritize your tasks. A day only has so many hours and if you want to get everything done, you need to learn the art of prioritizing. A handy tip is to set your schedule for the next day each night before you turn in. That way, you’ll know which essential tasks you should spend time on, making you more focused and energized throughout the day. 2. Track and time your tasks. Prioritizing is useless if you’re going to spend too much time on one task and then rush through the rest of your work. Thankfully, there are a number of awesome time tracking apps that can help you learn which daily tasks drain your time so you can make the necessary adjustments. 3. Quit multitasking. Multitasking might be in vogue right now and you might think it increases your efficiency but research shows that it actually takes a toll on your productivity. Instead of splitting your attention between different jobs, concentrate fully on one task and complete it properly before moving on to the next one. 4. Eliminate distractions. Modern life is fraught with distractions. There’s unread email, calls to return, Facebook notifications and even colleagues who like dropping in to shoot the breeze. If you let them, distractions can put a serious dent in your productivity. Learn how to effectively manage interruptions if you want to get more work done. A good way to start is by turning off notifications while at work. 5. Spruce up your work space. It’s crucial to have an effective office space that will foster productivity, especially if you’re working from home. This creates a barrier between you and the outside world and helps you focus your mind on work. Regardless of whether you work from home or not, ensure that your work space is organized and clutter-free. 6. Take regular breaks. Working in intervals dramatically boosts productivity as it allows you to take a break, clear your head and refocus on the tasks at hand. So take 5-10 minute breaks whenever you feel mentally fatigued and just take a walk to the water cooler or go outside for some fresh air. If you want to increase productivity at work, resist the temptation to work harder and work smarter instead! Finally, remember to get in a full night’s sleep and make exercise part of your work routine to always be at your best and most productive. Resources: - The Art of Prioritizing. (n.d.).
