As a part of his two-day visit to Japan, PM Narendra Modi met with Nobuhiro Endo, Chairman of NEC Corporation India, in Tokyo earlier this week. We must mention that the PM is in Tokyo for the third Quad Leaders' Summit, which took place on May 24 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. PM Modi and Mr. Endo discussed India's future in terms of digitization, and smart cities, as well as the critical role that NEC has and will play in creating a genuinely digital India. "The Prime Minister complimented NEC's participation in India's telecommunication sector, particularly in undertaking Chennai-Andaman & Nicobar Islands (CANI) and Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands (KLI) OFC projects," India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. PM also mentioned the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which offers investment prospects." The NEC chairman and the prime minister also talked about changes being implemented to make it easier to do business in India, as well as the promise of new and emerging technologies in the fields of smart cities, fintech, logistics, and digital infrastructure. NEC Corporation has contributed immensely to India’s digital growth! For almost 70 years, NEC, a 122-year-old firm, has been quietly fueling India's digital growth and constructing its digital backbone. NEC's solutions have altered a variety of industries, including telecommunications, transportation, logistics, healthcare, citizen services, manufacturing, and many more. The development of the submarine optical cable network for the CANI and KLI projects, which connects India to its most remote places and opens doors for economic potential in the region, is one of NEC's most notable initiatives. NEC, a leader in 5G and networking technology, has also been assisting telecoms in enabling 5G rollout in India by assisting companies in setting up critical high-capacity backhaul to support the service. Besides, NEC has been critical in facilitating the digital involvement of billions of citizens in the country. NEC's biometric technology has been at the heart of UIDAI's Aadhaar deployment, allowing over 1.3 billion people to enroll in the world's largest digital ID program in a secure manner. NEC's command and control centers, which were converted into COVID war rooms to combine data from various sources and aid in the efficient deployment of resources, also assisted India in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, NEC's cutting-edge technology also played a role in keeping numerous Indian firms afloat, both directly and indirectly. The pandemic compelled entire economies to undergo significant digital transformations, and businesses needed to adapt quickly in order to survive. It's safe to conclude that the economic impacts of the pandemic would have been far more severe if companies like NEC hadn't contributed to the development of networking infrastructure and services. Building Smarter Cities with Cutting edge technology NEC's contributions to India go far beyond networking infrastructure and it is currently leading smart city projects in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Thiruvananthapuram. Using projects like BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), the company has helped governments save money and increase efficiencies, and now it's easing boarding operations in a post-pandemic environment with contactless technology at certain airports (Varanasi, Pune, Vijaywada, Kolkata, etc.). NEC's global CEOs in India are developing several of these cutting-edge technologies. Additionally, NEC's Bengaluru R&D lab is another outstanding innovation hub, assisting in the development of new solutions to social infrastructure concerns in India and around the world. NEC is a committed partner to the Government of India and businesses in making India's goal of Digital India a reality, with cutting-edge solutions being developed with technologies such as AI, blockchain, big data, and so on. NEC has been a crucial enabler of India's digital transformation in recent years, as well as putting the country on the world map for innovation. "India's time as a global IT force is coming," said NEC India President Alok Kumar in an interview earlier this year, and the recent meeting between PM Modi and NEC Chairman heads rightly in the same direction.
