Almost every business, that deals in product sourcing and selling, needs a warehouse to store products. Wholesale business is no exception, as it needs a big warehouse to store all products bought from manufacturers or distributors. If your warehouse is running out of space, productivity is poor, costs are too high, processes are not working or you have a disorganized warehouse then for sure you will not be able to use your warehouse space effectively. The faulty structure of the warehouse itself can be the cause of many problems.rnWarehouses are actually the facilities that are needed to provide shelter and a proper environment for storing goods and products in bulk. Warehouses are mainly designed to accommodate the huge loads of products, the receiving and shipping operations and associated trucking. In order to design a new warehouse, you will need to follow some guidelines, where you can define certain objectives, collect enough information, do in-depth analysis, create whole plan, implement the plan and then carryout a post-plan implementation.rnSelecting Ideal design:rnWhile following the above-mentioned guidelines, the selection of ideal design is very important. In this section, we will discuss the most suggested designs, capacity selection, energy resources, location selection and manpower efficiency plans. The utmost aim of design of warehouse should be to best accommodate and serve the business requirements. According to warehouse economics, the best warehouse is the one in which products and materials are processed in minimal turnaround time.rnSo, according to the facts, when your warehouse capacity is at maximum point and your costs are escalating at a constant speed while your targets are not being met, then it is natural that your wholesale business needs a bigger or maybe a “smarter”.rnKeeping future aspects in mind:rnThe biggest blunder that most of the wholesalers make is that they never keep future aspects in mind. Designing a warehouse is not an easy task and requires a lot of money. So, while designing a warehouse for your wholesale business, always keep current and future needs in mind.rnLocation of the proposed warehouse is the key driver of implementation and transport costs. Getting a location in the middle or busy part of the city will cost you more as the rents and expense on other utilities will be more but the transportation would cost you less. On the other hand, a location out of city or on peripheries of city will be less expensive in terms of rents and other utilities but transportation costs would be high. Therefore, the best solution is to get a warehouse at a place where you can easily manage all expenditures easily.rnState of the art equipment:rnTo cope with the increasing needs of the world, the wholesaler will have to adopt the latest state of the art technology. The wholesale warehouse should be planned accordingly, to accommodate huge loads of stored products as well as associated handling equipment. Due to energy crisis and to preserve the resources of the world, Manufacturers as well as Wholesale Suppliers should also adopt alternative fuel resources such as solar energy. rnBesides, the warehouse should also possess light colour roof to reflect solar radiation that reduces HVAC loads, consumes less energy and results in a greater heat reflection in summer and helps increase workers’ productivity. While designing warehouse, if these tips are followed then it can be said that a very good warehouse layout will be designed.
