Are you aware of a certain Ellen Levy from Silicon Valley? If not, here is a quick recap, she is known to be the most ‘connected’ person in the world of information technology and used to head LinkedIn not very long ago. Her main job? Well, she connected; meaning that she set up networks between people of influence and idea andhencesomething new would end up happening. Using social networking sites is not just a trend anymore. It is after all a means of connecting with people on both the professional and personal fronts. Jobs and Social Network Delivering true value and being connected with people of influence is what your concern should be, if you are on a job hunt. The situation might be that you quit your last one and have been groping around for the new one ever since. Yes, you have the talent. Yes, you have the experience. Yes, you should get a job of the executive level. Yes, you have a wonderful curriculum vitae and an extraordinary cover letter. Nevertheless, why are you still at home? The answer is simple. You need to connect, hunt down if you will, with people who will after all be the ones to hire you. Truth is, it has indeed come down to ‘It is not what you know, it is who you know.’ You need to show that you can deliver and add value to the company. So, make sure that you are making the right contacts as this will take you a long way. After all, every business needs the quality of people who can connect well, so start enhancing what you have. Take a Good Look First, look within your sphere. Just like charity, networking begins at home. Look into the list of people you know. They maybe friends, acquaintances, ex colleagues or even some distant relative of yours. Make a list of the people who can be of help, go ahead, and try connecting by calling them, sending them emails or even inviting them over. Never stop trying. It is only a matter of time, when that guy you know, has a person who might be of tremendous help to you. Also, do not forget to patronize them in some manner or the other. Moreover, make sure that you have the right approach. Do not come across very strongly with your point or there might be a misunderstanding. Anyhow, give it your best try and wonders will work.
