New surgical approaches: Treating Parkinson’s disease rnThere are several disorders and diseases that baffle the world of medical science. For this reason, scientists and researchers wrestle with the possibilities of why a certain disease attacks a healthy patient and they strive to find a course of treatment that would arrest it. Even though each of these advancements might not be path breaking, at least it is a step closer to finding an anecdote or a solution to the existing diseases and disorders. In this way, a cure is found that would relieve and alleviate the pain that patients undergo. This focus, dedication and the relentless effort to find a cure has manifested in researchers coming up with alternate treatment course for various disease as well as disorders. rnRecently, a medical journal article discusses a study that focus on the new surgical approaches which are being used in order to treat Parkinson’s disease and the success rate of this method. As mentioned earlier, this is a new course of treatment that had not been used before and could be a path breaking discovery. The first thing that you need to take into consideration is the fact this disease is described as a neurodegenerative disorder which has several features. Some of the features include resting tumors, instability, rigidity as well as bradykinesia, which were previously treated with medicinal agents. rnHowever, the study published in the medical journal suggests that the extent to which drug treatment extended was limited. This usually meant that the levodopa was involved in the use of the drug which would just arrest the symptoms but not the disease. Besides that the catechol methyl transferase inhibitors, dopamine agonists and nondopaminergic drugs were used in order to to treat this. But, this type of treatment did not address the problem but instead suppressed the symptoms that were being exhibited by the patient, which would clearly not put an end to this disorder or make it subside in any way.rnHowever, in the past few years there have been several surgical techniques that are being taken up which use deep brain stimulation, pallidotomy, thalomotomy or sub-thalamotomy as a course of treatment. These days you would be able to find extensive amount of literature about these particular course of treatments. Besides that they have received their share of media attention as well. This is largely because of the fact that the survival rate as well as the high recovery rates of patients using this course of treatment is commendable. As a result the media has projected these treatments as a miraculous one. rnEven though the speculations of the media may be a little exaggerated, it might not be completely accurate. However, the fact cannot be disputed that this course of treatment has been proved to be better than conventional ones that were adopted earlier. As the medical journal article suggests it goes to show that each of these advancements is a step towards finding the cure that could in the future eliminate a particular disease or disorder.
