Working in the community in the west has its frustrations and problems, as this work anywhere in the world. Many of the problems faced are very similar to ours here in Arusha in northern Tanzania, where poverty is extreme, perhaps the problem seems hopeless or difficult.

What is different again, perhaps because of poverty, is an absolute waste of life - sickness, unsafe public transport and violent theft on a daily basis is unclear. But sometimes something comes along a curved ball and catches us off guard.

Community worker yesterday, Martha, left their homes to go to the city. Children, Brenda Lumuli 4 years, 5 months, left the safe and reliable sister Martha. Martha is doing well for yourself, it has a nice job and a two-room brick house. Her husband is a good man and he works hard to keep your family diet and health.

When Martha returned home yesterday afte
oon her life fell apart. A young man, a neighbor visited Martha's sister and young children. He was upset because he did not work and life, I started to get it. He poured petrol over himself and get off at the house of Martha. Four houses were burned. Last night, a young man died in hospital. Sister Martha is so badly burnt we fear she will get over it. Brenda, age four seriously burned and the doctors doubt she will do.

It rocked our community. We live with death and disease on a daily basis we have something Burry, we pray every night for thieves to visit, but these events have left us aghast and deeply troubled.

Poor communities like us need help from outside. Not the money, the money just gets
spent and everyone gets a lot with the exception of folk who need it most. What we need people like you, people who have time and money to be in a position to read this. We need your help, your skills, your time, we ask you to consider anywhere in the world with the help of the third of his time.

We are in East Africa, but there are many places in the world that needs your help. Take some time and visit a third world community. Go and see, come and help. The work is rewarding. Even a two-week vacation spent in the Third World lending arm will do much good, not just for our community, but yours as well. Support and training is a two way process - it's not just about a bit, as well as the receipt, so be prepared to include the giving and receiving. Again, I say it is not money - to give money is so easy - what I'm asking is difficult - I challenge you to give your valuable time.
