Niche products are specialized marketing. In other words, you choose to place your energy in a special market. When you specialize, you have some advantages and disadvantages, and here a few to consider.
Advantages
When you specialize, you focus on one particular thing. For example, you might concentrate your specialized marketing on decorations or gifts. You may choose to specialize in gifts, or you may go a step farther and concentrate only on decorations. The choice is up to you, and this is only one example of many.
Becoming Accepted
When you focus on specialty marketing, you may become better than your competition. Most competition spread themselves thin by offering a large amount of products. This can give them a steady profit, but large profits may elude them.
You can stay ahead of most of the competition, because your market is all you have to worry about. You can devote all of your time and effort to your one corner of the market. Eventually you may be recognized as the best.
When you become accepted in your niche, you also can be seen as an authority. This means that people will trust you, and you may develop a loyal following. This is where the concept of “branding” comes in, as you can be seen as a representative of your business and product.
Niche marketing does not have to be about a certain time of year. It can be a certain kind of product. Maybe you will concentrate on computer related or electronic things. Perhaps you will concentrate on a particular kind of beauty item, or maybe health supplements.
Service
When you practice specialty marketing you can focus more on service. After all, service is as important as your product, in most cases. A specialty shop or business, is often a trusted source of information, and this keeps customers coming back.
You are operating in a smaller market, you can afford to spend a little more time with customers, like answering questions. People appreciate personal service, in a world of impersonal and computerized things. Also, customers will pay more for something, if they know they are getting excellent service.
Disadvantages
One of the disadvantages, may be placing all of one’s eggs in one basket. As your market and business goes, so do you. If the demand for your items or service dries up, you may be left out in the cold. It is important to choose something that you believe has a good future.
Summary
When you sell niche products, you are selling in a specialized market. It could be just about anything, as long as you focus on one aspect of it. There are many benefits for this kind of marketing concept. When you specialize, it is easy to surpass the competition that does not specialize. Focusing all of your attention on one product or service can place you among the top, eventually. If you are in a smaller market, you can develop a loyal customer base. However, specialization can be dangerous if the market dries up, so one must be careful to choose a specialty carefully.
