Fighting back in a life-threatening situation is really scary. It is not possible, or easy, for everyone to learn the techniques to protect one-self from attacks, in various situations. Even with practice and finely tuned skills, an aspect of fighting is required, which is the spirit. You can use the spirit to fight for yourself, without the help of non-lethal weapons: but, with pepper spray!
Non-lethal weapons are used to combat situations like controlling public movement, channelizing battlefield, peacekeeping and stability operations, faced by military forces, occupation forces, and so on. These non-lethal weapons come in the form of:
- Anti-vehicles– vehicle-stoppers disable vehicles to prevent attack by oncoming vehicles, or to prevent them to go further at all.
- Caltrops were used long time ago to stop the enemy for examination or to prevent incursions, in the form of rocks, bushes, trees, etc in their paths.
- Active-denial system that penetrates into human skin and sends the signal to nervous system that the victim is on fire, although no damage is done.
- Gases and Sprays-
* Water cannons are used to prevent movement towards a particular direction.
* Scent-based weapons produce smells, horrible enough to make people leave the targeted area.
* Tear gas once sprayed stimulates corneal nerves in the eyes to cause tear, pain and temporary blindness.
* Sleep gas induces sleep in the terrorists and hostages.
* Pepper spray causes severe irritation in the eyes leading to pain, tears and temporary blindness.
- Electroshock Weapons aim to disrupt superficial muscle functions, and come in the form of conductive-energy device, electroshock belts and stun guns.
- Directed-energy weapons include sonic weapons and electromagnetic weapons. When aimed at a particular direction, cause vehicles, weapons and other machines as well as people to immobilize.
These non-lethal or less-lethal weapons are used with the intention to cause least possible injury to the lives. However people are occasionally seriously harmed and killed, and are also found to have long-term effects. Mostly damages are caused due to repetitive attacks, inadequately planned attacks, per-existing medical conditions, intentional misuse of weapons, inadequate training, etc.
Of all these non-lethal weapons, pepper spray has been found to be the one with least dangerous effects and possibilities. It is considered as the safest defensive tool by people, including military forces, police, and public. They don’t have long-lasting effects, and once sprayed, will be effective for a few hours, at the most. Also they are always, widely available at supermarkets, pharmacies, and if nothing else, then online! They are relatively cheaper than other non-lethal weapons, and come with significant returns. You don’t have to prepare yourself for various minutes or hours to get ready; when you feel alarmed and see the attacker around you, without waiting for any longer, burst two-three sprays onto his face and eyes.
