No need to be afraid of dating online

Dealing with the unknown can be quite scary and quite tricky. I mean who likes meeting strangers on the streets? We all get comfortable around the familiar right? When a friend of mine started dating online on AfroRomance interracial dating site and she came and told me about it, I remember going “Are you out of your mind? Aren’t you scared of meeting some strange and creepy individuals on the site?” Well, her answer to these questions were “What do I have to be afraid of and I am doing it in my house? Do I need to be afraid of men I am looking at on my computer? Plus what’s the difference between meeting people online and offline? Aren’t they all people you know nothing about initially?” See I kind of got her kind of reasoning. Whether you are on Afroromance or are in a bar searching for love, there will always be creepy individuals in both scenarios. And meet some she did: Men who sent her photos of their junks, men who wanted nothing more than to have erotic chats with her. So she made me see things her way. She said, “Even in the ‘normal’ dating scenario as you’d like to call it – not that I am saying online dating is abnormal – I still used to meet men who wanted nothing more than to see me naked and have their way with me. But I didn’t have to do what they wanted and that’s how online dating is too. You don’t have to communicate with anyone you don’t want to.” rnThat is when she then told me about how you can choose to block someone you don’t want to be in contact with and even report someone who has been offensive to you or has threatened you in any way on AfroRomance dating site. And she said: just the same way you don’t give out your personal details to some stranger you meet is the same way you go about it online. All you need to do is not to rush things and to trust your gut. Well, today, she is married to the most amazing man she met online. And today as we speak, I am on AfroRomance dating site because I have realized that there is nothing to be afraid of. All one needs to do is exercise a little caution; just as you would when dating offline. And since my fear for online dating has subsided, lets hope I find my amazing man on this site too.
