For anybody who has done any gardening they know the difficulty of keeping a good garden free of weeds is an ongoing task that seems to never end. It is like the legendary monster whose head gets cut of and as soon as that happens another one pops up. This war against weeds seems to have been going on since time in memorial and through out the ages people have come up with ingenious methods of keeping the killer weeds at bay. Weeds as we know hinder the growth of other plants but the problem are that they also grow near the plants we want. So the trick is to use non toxic weed killers that will not affect the plants you want. This is especially true if you are someone who is serious about maintaining an organic garden. After all what is the use of having organic plants that will be exposed to non organic killers. This does not mean that all non organic weed killers are toxic but they tend to be in most cases. Not only that if you have pets and children running around the garden, you don't want to be spraying the front and back yard with toxic substances. The first and foremost non toxic weed killer is of course to do it manually. That is removing each individual weed with ones hands or using a tool is perhaps the best way to avoid toxic substances. On the other hand if you do not want to use the "brute force" method to handle the weed problem, then there are other safe alternatives to get rid of those weeds. Using salt is a simple and easy way to handle the problem. If you use about a quarter of a teaspoon per weed, it will almost always get rid of them. You need to be careful not to use too much as it may affect other plants you want to keep alive. Another easy remedy is to cover the weeds with either plastic sheets or news papers. It should be weighed down with something heavy and kept for about 2 weeks. Afterwards lift it up and you will see a weed less ground. Vinegar and hot water are effective weed killers. If you do not have a large amount of weeds to get rid of then pouring hot water on it is sure to kill them and make your problem go away quickly and easily, and most importantly without harming the environment.
