The Buddhists hold the virtue of non attachment as one of their core principles of belief. The more we detach from material objects, emotions, outcomes, the happier we become. It’s amazing to sit in one place and not be able to run way or go anywhere. I have had a great opportunity to experience my attachments.
Attachment to virtues I hold dear such as, independence, beauty, order, efficiency, spirituality, articulate and clear mind, strong healthy body and the list goes on. It is so cool and interesting to sit with no make up on for almost a month, experience my body loose it’s muscle mass, not know when my mind is going to be clear and articulate or when she will betray me with confusion or dizziness, and watch my efficient life fade away as hours turn into days, days into weeks and weeks are now turning into a month.
Non attachment means something very different now than it did when I studied it with His Holiness The Dalai Lama and the holy monk Thich Nhat Hanh. This is non attachment right in my face!

Give it a rest. Well, I would, except joy is our basic nature. It’s what everything else we do is aiming for. Yes, money is nice, but why?
