A 2010 report by India Tourism Statistics stated that Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) increased to 5.78 million in 2010 as compared to 2009 when it was just 5.17 million. Tourism in India accounts for 6.23% of the national GDP and 8.78% of the total employment in the country. India witnesses five million foreigners and 562 million domestic tourists annually. The report also mentioned that out of this number, 60% of the foreign tourists prefer visiting the Northern regions of India.
