This time it was Triple Crown’s last and final leg, the Belmont Stakes that became the target of another upsetting episode as Ruler on Ice, an underdog, starting from the 3rd post positions with a not so impressive 24-1 odds raced to victory while the dark horses lost way and the probable heroes gasped for breath in the final home stretch.rnA fantasy racing experience is what jockey Jose Valdivia and trainer Kelly Breen interpret the whole episode to be. And why not, the forums portray his racing in the Belmont Stakes as a willing, forward directed, contently tracking, firmly held, gradually raging up and digging in with good determination run to victory while most of the field succumbed to emptiness.rnIf you hadn’t noticed, Ruler descends from a pedigree that was so incredible, had the bidders paid attention the odds would have been startlingly contradictory to the past performances of the Belmont contenders. Ruler’s win hence become upsetting as Animal Kingdom and Shackleford remained the favourite predictions for championship and only Mucho Macho Man and Master of Hounds were considered as possible threats to the probable. rnThe outstanding pedigree of Ruler On Ice sports an array of sire-grand sire- great grand sire impressively a blend of endurance, stamina, experience on dirt and sloppy mud and a major number of distinguished race wins. Sire Roman Ruler was in turn sired by Fusaichi Pegasus, dearly known as FuPeg whose major wins include 2000 Kentucky Derby, Wood Memorial Stakes, Jerome Handicap and San Felipe Stakes to name a few. He was the first favourite since Spectacular Bid in 1978 to win Kentucky Derby. Dam Silvery Swan was a broodmare with a pedigree credentials that mark her success from the paddocks alone. rnMr. Prospector, the great grand sire of Ruler On Ice has an incredible progeny that includes 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, Red Bullet (Preakness Stakes winner 2000 who upset FePug’s Belmont Stakes), Thunder Gulch (1995 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes), Afleet Alex (2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes), Funny Cide (2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes) and Zenyetta (who won 19 out of 20 career starts including 2008 Breeder’s Cup Ladies Classic and also 2009 Breeder’s Cup Classic). Any doubts where Ruler derives all his outstanding racing styles and endurance from?rnRuler On Ice also belongs to an incredible line of dames who have inherited their genes from superb runners of all times such as Alydar and Raise a Native. rnRuler on Ice has till date had seven racing career starts of which he’s won three and two of these tracks were sloppy. Not just this but only one of the seven starts he barely managed to finish fifth, all the six remaining races, ruler On Ice maintained a podium finish, while Belmont Stakes was simply an outstanding performance by the three year old chestnut colt. rnIf you were to challenge the Belmont Stakes, who would you like to ride into the fantasy racing with?
