Idaho is ranked 14th in US in terms of geographical area but the population is a little more than the population in Hawaiian region. There is a shortage of nurse practitioner programs in the state. There is just one campus based university for Nurse practitioner training in Idaho. Five basic courses are offered in the Idaho State University:
• Family Nurse Practitioner
• Clinical Nurse Leader
• Clinical Nurse Specialist
• Nursing Education
• Nursing Leadership.
For any other course you need to enroll in an online training course which is offered by various other universities in the state of Idaho. Nurse Practitioners are known as APPN (Advanced Practical Professional Nurse) in Idaho. CCNE (Commission Collegiate Nursing Education) is the accreditation council in Idaho. The eligibility for enrollment is based on certain pre-requisites and conditions:-
• You must be 21 years older.
• Candidate should be a current RN (Registered Nurse) and his/her license must not have expired.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher in graduation.
• Physical assessment test, drug and alcohol addiction test and a background check is compulsory.
Nurse practitioner programs offer not only classroom and clinical study but also prepare graduates to act in a leadership role and help them identify and resolve critical issues that can put an impact on Nursing field and healthcare industry. Nurse practitioner programs in Idaho are of 24 months in duration. License is issued to nurse practitioners after passing a certification examination. There is wide scope for Nurse practitioners in Idaho due to shortage of nurse practitioners in the state. The only campus based training school in Idaho is Idaho State University- School of Nursing of Pocatello.
The course fee for Idaho training program is nearly $17000 including the tuition fee, books fee and professional fee for the whole course. In case you don’t have sufficient funds for the training program, there is a provision of scholarships and financial assistance for nursing students also. Idaho nursing board accepts training certified from an ANCC and AANP accredited online training program.
