Information about nutrition is becoming an important part of the information we take in each day. Many of the groceries that we purchase come with nutrition labels that show us the percentages of protein, fiber, fat, and carbohydrates as well as the amount of vitamins and minerals they contain. Websites can do the same thing for prepared foods at some of the most popular restaurant chains. As people become more aware of the ingredients they are putting into their bodies, they begin to realize that it can be a challenge to get enough nutrition from the foods that they eat on a daily basis. They also realize that it is easier than ever to eat foods that contribute little or nothing to one’s overall health. Studies have been done that show that the nutrition gained from everyday meals can be aided by using nutritional supplements. Some supplements are artificially created chemical compounds. People who want more natural ways to improve their nutrition may be surprised to know that many nutritional supplements are created from natural elements such as algae. Spirulina and Chlorella are two of the most popular species of algae that are becoming known as super foods. They are capable of supplying many of the nutritional needs that people have. Chlorella is spherically shaped green algae while Spirulina is more blue-green in color and is coil-shaped. Both are single-celled organisms which contain many nutrients that are important for people’s health. They both grow with water, sunlight, carbon dioxide and small amounts of trace minerals. While Chlorella contains approximately 45% protein, Spirulena has been measured between 55% and 77 % protein. These complete proteins include all eight of the necessary amino acids as well as additional amino acids. The fatty acids that are critical for good nutrition are also present. Both also contain many of the B vitamins, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, and additional vitamins. Most of the nutritional needs that people have can be supplied by these foods, which is why they are sometimes referred to as super foods. Spirulina has nearly 26 times the percentage of calcium that is found in milk and it provides about 58 times as much iron as Popeye’s famous spinach does. A statement released by NASA suggests that 1 kg of this amazing supplement is the equivalent to 1000 kgs of the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. In fact, there are over one hundred nutrients that are essential to good health that are contained in this amazing super food. Both spirulina and Chlorella have been used for treating cancers and removing toxins. Spirulina has been used to provide sufficient quantities of iron for young children in addition to the high levels of protein. Repair to liver damage, aid for patients suffering from hepatitis, protection against influenza and other infections have all been shown using these supplements. The immune system is supported and improved through use of these supplements. If you are looking for better nutrition for yourself and your family, you may want to think about these super foods.
