Market share matters. It represents your ability to reach the customers that you want to. However, it is much more than a percentage. The quality of these relationships also matters. That is why focusing on numerical goals misses out on part of the picture. It ignores the fact that the condition of those relationships may be a much better indicator of your success. Taking this into account I would like to change they way that you look at both public relations and public relations companies. While I am not going to try to convince you that numbers are irrelevant, I am going to try to convince you to look beyond the numbers and to what they mean in actuality. Establishing the right relationship with your customers and clients is what allows you to grow as firm. It creates a dynamic conversation where you are able to serve their needs and of course as result of this attention to detail, you are rewarded with sales. Sounds simple, but ensuring that the message you are sending out is right is much more complex than you expect. Firstly, it has to be appealing and grab the attention of your target audience. It must have substance and present something that matters to them. It then has to lead them to do what you intend them to do with the information; use it. However, public relations extends far beyond simple marketing to that of a true a partnership whereby both you and your customers benefit from the relationship. This is where the second part of the message comes. It is the maintenance, assessment and growth of the relationship your message already established. This is where having the best of the public relations agencies in your corner makes all of the difference. However, all public relations agencies are not created equal. Some are more experienced, others are newer to the field. Figuring out which one I best for your industry and situation is critical as they are the ones that will be working with you to establish your image, message and dialogue with customers. That is why they must be both well versed in public relations and your goals. Making certain that they understand your objectives and the meanings of the metrics will ensure that your relation goes beyond sales dollars or market share to that of a productive relationship where innovative solutions are supplied and employed. With all of this in mind, I wish you the best of luck in your search for a public relations firm and I hope that the advice I have given you proves to be useful in finding which of the many public relations agencies is the one for you.
