Ideal offshore containers follow DNV2.7-1/EN12079 standard. It is the quality mark set for making cargo baskets, metal tanks and other types of containers for offshore oil firms.
Offshore containers are the silent workers employed by oil firms working on high seas. These metal boxes transport goods, equipment, tools, safety units and even food from coast to the drilling site in sea. Made of tough metal, these baskets come in a variety of shape and size to fulfill different purposes like carrying bulky machine parts, debris and food. An oil firm requires a number of containers for smooth functioning. It relies on these metal baskets when it comes to transporting goods from coast and sending material from drilling sites. The metal boxes travel on ships and the containers are always at work.
Ideal offshore containers follow DNV2.7-1/EN12079 standard. It is the quality mark set for making cargo baskets, metal tanks and other types of containers for offshore oil firms. Offshore suppliers that manufacturers these metal carriers have to follow the set standard but not all the suppliers follow the standard. There is a huge demand for cargo baskets and suppliers make substandard metal boxes in hurry just to take advantage of this demand. Such suppliers want to make quick money by selling more containers but it is the oil firm managers to see that they buy only quality goods from reliable suppliers.
Substandard offshore containers are not reliable as they are made with recycled waste material and also they don’t have protective coating that shield the metal from harmful effects of saline air and hard sea water. A container takes days in reaching to its destination in high seas. If the carrier is not of quality, it would spoil its contents. For instance take refrigerated metal box that is used for carrying climate sensitive products. Substandard carrier couldn’t maintain the temperature for long period hence it is not suitable for carrying delicate items like food. The oil firm managers should deal with reliable suppliers only and they should place their orders well in advance to avoid any rush.
Offshore containers have a fixed lifecycle beyond which they become redundant. The aging metal carriers should be replaced with new ones before they complete their life term. It is the responsibility of the managers to keep stock of new containers that they can replace with the outdated ones. Manufacturing a container is a time taking job hence the managers should place their order for new products in advance so that they could get the containers on time. Since there are many offshore suppliers, managers should have no difficulty in locating the credible suppliers.
