Thanks to media reports awareness has been widespread about this adulterated olive oils sold in most supermarkets and grocery stores. Because of the many documented health benefits of extra virgin olive oil, demand for it has increased the world over. Some unscrupulous operators quickly took advantage over this to boost profits. Cheaper oils being put in to the mix like sunflower seed oil, hazelnut soy and others, are destroying extra virgin olive oil quality. This adulterated olive oil is not only shipped off to different countries, there are also attempts to cover the tracks by mislabeling its country of origin. If government food administrations would do their job properly by enforcing the law of strict labeling as the origin, from which country the products are coming from and as well the date of manufacture, this situation could be avoided. The health benefits of pure extra virgin oils are almost endless! Good news is you don't have to wind up with adulterated, rancid oil in your kitchen, salad dressing or in your food. There are some olive oils independently certified of being 100% pure extra virgin oil products even locally grown and pressed. The only olive oil we should use must have freshness and purity.
