You get home after a long day at work, your tired and hungry and just want to sit down in front of the telly to watch the Eastenders. You forgot to get the meat out of the freezer this morning but that is ok, as you have a microwave to defrost it within 10 minutes and you do just that. Or maybe you have a pre-packaged meal in the fridge that you can put in the microwave for 15 minutes and volla, it is ready to eat! Does this sound familiar? Technology can be a good thing… however it also has its health side effects. The microwave was first invented and brought into households in 1955. It wasn’t until around 1986 when it started to become popular and more and more people brought them. Now, over 90% of households have a microwave in their home. For convenience, microwaves are fantastic. However, did you know that when you put your food in the microwave, it changes the structure of the food so much so, that the body can not recognise it? There have been many studies conducted to see whether the use of a microwave is safe. Here are the findings of one study conducted by the Swiss biologist and food scientist Dr. Hans Hertel. Eight people participated in the study over an eight week period consuming raw, conventionally cooked and microwaved foods. Blood samples were taken after each meal and they found that there were significant changes in the blood chemistry. Here are some of the findings: 1. Microwaved foods consumed decreases haemoglobin and cholesterol values in HDL (the good cholesterol) and in white blood cells, resulting in a weakening of the immune system. Leukocyte levels also increase which tends to indicate poisoning and cell damage resulting in cancers and degenerative diseases. 2. Microwaved foods lead to a higher percentage of cancerous cells in the bloodstream 4. Microwaves altered the breakdown of elemental substances when raw, cooked or frozen vegetables were exposed for even a very short time and free radicals were formed. 5. Microwaved foods lowered the body’s ability to utilise B-complex vitamins, Vit C, Vit E, essential minerals and lipotropics. 6. Not only eating the microwaved foods but standing near a working microwave causes a large amount of health problems 7. Microwaves destroy 60 – 90 percent of the life force that gives food its vitality and nourishment. In another experiment, heating breast milk, even at a low setting, some of the milks important disease-fighting capabilities were destroyed. The amino acid L-proline found in breast milk was transformed into D-proline, a proven toxin to the nervous system, liver and kidneys. With many studies conducted, they have all come to the same conclusion and that is, microwaves are very dangerous. Going back to the conventional ways of cooking over the stove and in the oven will bring you greater health by providing you with all the nutrients the food has to offer. The best way to cook vegetables is to lightly steam them and lightly fry or bake meat and fish. It really does not take that much more time or effort to cook this way. We recommend taking your microwave to your local rubbish dump and ending its life. Your health will thank you for it.
