This article is definitely a little off the beaten path, so before I dive into this, I just want to clear up that I am not a medical professional and you should not use this information as a substitute for the advice of a qualified health care provider. But, if it seems like nothing else is working, then maybe you can experiment with what I’m going to describe here. I know how very real and painful back pain or sciatica can be. I’ve been there myself, so you can imagine what first went through my head when I first heard about using something called the Emotional Freedom Technique to get rid of sciatica. The basic idea is that your sciatica is the result of emotional distress that manifests itself as physical pain. Kind of “new age-y,” I know. The pain you feel seems very real, and if the cause is some deep-seeded subconscious emotion, then you might not even be aware of the emotional cause at all. You just feel the pain. So, if you have even the slightest inkling that this might describe your situation, what can you do? Things like this can be cleared up quickly and easily using what is called the Emotional Freedom Technique (or EFT for short). EFT is based off of the ancient Chinese energy meridians in the body--the same points that are used for acupuncture. But don’t worry, you’re not going to have to stick any needles in yourself here. All you need to do is tap these energy meridians with your finger a few times each. What this does is, in essence, “resets” your body’s energy flows. This allows you to release unhealthy emotions and remove emotional blocks that might be causing your sciatica. Simply set the intention of resolving the emotional root cause of your back pain, then tap the pressure points, and then do what is called the “9 gamut,” which essentially stimulates your brain with eye movements, humming, and counting. After doing this, don’t be surprised if you feel a sudden crash in energy. This is your body releasing all the pent up energy following the EFT procedure. What is great about EFT is that you can do it nearly anywhere. All you need is a minute or two of free time and a secluded spot (unless you don’t mind confusing other people around you with your behavior). If you ever feel your back pain start to act up again, just EFT it away. But EFT can be used for more than just back pain. You can use it to overcome any sort of unpleasant emotion you experience or anything that may have an emotional root cause. I’ve even heard stories of people using it to overcome things like a common cold! So, if you have tried everything to get rid of your sciatica or back pain, maybe you should consider that there might be an emotional component to the pain. EFT isn’t difficult to learn, and it is even easier to apply. Go ahead and give it a shot. The only thing you have to lose is your back pain.
