For decades, there are some traditions that have been repeated. High school is filled with traditions, rites of passage that not many people willingly skip. One of these traditions is yearbooks. As with all the classes before them, there are new things that are being done to this famous tradition. With the advances of technology, students have the option of getting online yearbooks too.

Online yearbooks are the same as a traditional yearbook. It is just maintained online, not a physical book to carry. Some don't like the idea of the electronic option but there are a large number of supporters. Regardless to whom doesn't like it; it livens up a dull tradition.

Online yearbooks are yearbooks that are maintained on a website. These websites may require handling through a third party or a specific department may feel comfortable in maintaining the website and making sure it is consistently available for viewing.

Some schools that decide to offer online yearbooks choose to have only staff members assemble the books. Most schools decide to keep the yearbook staff so the same type of content that is normally in a yearbook is still offered. That is a tradition many schools don't want to break.

The yearbook staff and faculty members contact the company that will help with the website after all the pictures have been gathered and content is ready. After they have gotten access, they can begin choosing the graphics and designs. Online yearbooks are just as easy to read as their traditional counterparts. Once the design is picked, content can be added.

The biggest argument against online yearbooks was the fact that students couldn't sign one another's yearbooks. Companies that offer online yearbooks have now made an adjustment to solve that problem. Some students can give access to their classmates and allow them to sign their yearbook. Companies that produce online yearbooks would have lost a large fan base if they hadn't used technology to resolve that complaint.

Some schools find that it is less expensive to produce online yearbooks. The biggest fee that is involved is the cost for the yearbook package. That includes different things for different companies but it does normally include the tools needed to get the entire website launched and ready for sale. The cost to produce a traditional yearbook is more expensive because of all the printing, binding and shipping that are involved. Schools find that there is more profit gained when selling online yearbooks because there are fewer expenses to pay.

There are so many different reasons schools are considering online yearbooks. There aren't many schools that haven't considered it. The time held tradition of having a yearbook will remain. Newer generations will leave their mark on it for future generations, like their ancestors did for them.
