The third trimester of pregnancy is pretty painful for the mother as the baby starts gaining both size and weight. At the onset of this period, the baby is about 1.8-2 kg. in weight when the mother is 32 weeks pregnant. The length of the baby also is about 43 cm. This is a huge size to accommodate in the womb and the mother starts feeling the pain now.The skeleton of the baby has been stiffening since the 20th. week and it continues even further. The skin is almost fully grown and it is pink and smooth. The fingernails and toenails start growing by the 32 weeks pregnant period. The real hairs also start generating by now. The bigger size of the baby creates pressure upwards and the mother can feel it on the ribs. This may cause breathlessness. The physical activities of the mother come to a minimal situation now. Now exertion on the body is permissible. Any careless move may cause damage to the still growing skeletal system of the baby. In the 33rd. week, the baby grows by an inch and keeps becoming heavier. It also starts moving into the birth position by now. It gradually turns itself upside down with the head pointing towards the exit. This is a crucial time as this movement may cause other complications like the umbilical cord getting around the baby’s neck, causing problems with breathing. Thus extreme care of the mother and her physical activities is essential. The mother when 33 weeks pregnant will have further complications like increasing pain on the ribs and stomachs. In order to reduce discomfort, the mother needs to eat in small quantities and more number of times. Proper nutrition is very important at this stage of growth. During the 33 weeks pregnant condition, there may be signs of early labor. There may sometimes be back pain developing for the mother. Such back aches may sometimes be mistaken as cramps that are natural during pregnancy. But when they are happening at this stage, they must be consulted with the doctor and the midwife to find out if the cause is early labor. Since these final few weeks are very crucial, it is important that not a single symptom in the mother be ignored. The baby’s growth of the skeleton is still on and so, food rich in calcium and vitamin C has to be taken in by the mother. These micronutrients will help in proper bone development.
