When the drug addiction is withdrawn systematically in any individual, then this process is known as medical detoxification. This process is done under the special care of a physician. In some people using drugs or drinking alcohol gradually increases the physical dependence. The process of detoxification is used to treat the patients suffering from acute psychological effects due to stopping of drugs. This process is also used to remove the residual toxins which have been left in the body as a result of using the chemicals found in drugs or alcohol. This process is also known as opiate detoxification in which the withdrawal of the drug is done while the patients are asleep under general anesthesia. Usually opiate blockers are used to stop the action of narcotics. These opiate blockers are intravenous injection of medications which are given to patients. Some injections as well as opiate drugs are also used to reduce the symptoms of withdrawal like anti-nausea medications and muscle relaxants. All these process are very much effective and is very much helpful in rapid withdrawal from the physical effects of addiction. For the process of opiate detoxification, some opiate blockers like naltrexone, naloxone etc are used which shows very fast and positive effects. This process of rapid detox is done in an intensive care unit of a hospital. After 48 hours the patients are discharged. The process of rapid detoxification is very much helpful for the patients who are chemically dependent on narcotics like heroin, Vicodin, Percocet, Demerol, Dilaudid, Darvocet, opium, morphin, codeine, prescription painkillers, and all different types of narcotic drugs. Due to rapid detoxification the period of detoxification get shortens and their pain and discomfort also reduces. This process is very much effective and of great benefit for the patients who suffer from severe symptoms of withdrawal. With general anesthesia there are many problems as well as risk associated. All these process are performed by the highly trained professionals. It is also necessary that there should be a proper medical setting and the hospital should be fully equipped so that it is capable of dealing with each and every complication. The attendant of the patients should also be supportive.
