Opportunities to redirect your career can come from anywhere

As a serial entrepreneur, I often consider whether or not what I'm doing is going to be a launching pad for something greater. Whether I'm sweeping the floor at home or I'm typing an email, it's difficult for me to put much effort into something without saying, "hey what if I could find a way to make this easier?". Along with this, "what if I could find a way to eliminate this activity completely, without negatively affecting the actual outcome?". So, if you have been unwillingly forced into the ranks of unemployment and therefore are considering starting your own business then I suggest you quickly adopt this attitude. For a few, this really is easy. Let's be honest, many people appear to have a unique super power that makes money pour out of their pockets. Others of us have to work at it. And I mean work tirelessly! This attitude is specially important when you are wanting to think of a great business idea and it seems really difficult. It should not be that difficult when you're in the right mind set. It isn't really uncommon for some entrepreneurs to get multiple ideas a day, but simply not have the time to implement them all. If you aren't there mentally, then practice asking those questions for several days and you will be surprised by the results! Alternatively, in case you are working for someone else and you are feeling that you are being underutilized, you may want to consider the way you are approaching your existing role. Despite the fact that I own multiple businesses, I also have a professional career. In this particular career, I often try and think about my actions from the eyes of the owner that employs me. In this way, I have kind of a double check against how "I" perceive what I'm doing versus the way the "owner" perceives it. Although this hasn't only driven the success of my career, it's also made my "bosses" really appreciate me in just about every role That i have ever filled. Here's the trick; I bet that if you could get into a time machine and go visit just about any successful entrepreneur before they hit the big time, you'd most likely find that they had that entrepreneurial mindset a long time before they themselves realized where their destinies lie. The question is if you feel this is natural or if it may be learned. I really believe it can be learned! Don't get me wrong here; I believe whole heatedly in making use of your passions to drive your employment! I also believe money shouldn't play the ultimate role in what direction you are taking your career in. However, I do think that you should have a certain attitude to succeed in business. It is an attitude of giving rather than a mindset of receiving. Regardless if you are focusing on giving your present employer the most productivity for his money or it's giving your customer the most bang for his buck, it's about problem solving and giving. Whether you decide to keep grinding it out, or begin looking for a new position, or even if you take the plunge as the next victim in the "Shark Tank", the additional value that you simply add to whatever you decide to do will define your ability to succeed as an entrepreneur.
