Leadership is an art or is it a science? In fact, many consider leadership as an art where others feel it is a branch of science. However, when it comes to organizational leadership, it is considered a blend of both art and science. Organizational leadership is an important ingredient in the success recipe of any organization. Understanding employees and aligning their goals and missions with that of the organization is the key role of any organizational leadership. It does not require a certificate by an educational institution or a degree by a university. Organizational leadership comes by practice, experience and by applying principles of organizational management. Organizational development does not mean having an automated program, which higher management can run on the computers of their employees. And hope this will help them realize organizational goals and missions. Organizational leadership, however, is the capability of senior management to understand its employees and company goals and device a process to bring everyone together. Often, it has been seen that an organization with excellent leadership will have employees, who are not only satisfied with the work they are doing but also feel that their opinions are valued and that their work is critical to the shared success of the whole organization. But there is not a single application that an organization can implement, which insures that it has aligned its employees’ desires and expectations with that company’s growth. Since no two organizations are same, one cannot say with guarantee that organizational leadership management principles that were effective in one company will yield same or similar results in any other company. But there are certain core activities that underline the basic principles of organizational leadership development. These activities are: * Team Building Exercisesrn* Leadership Developmentrn* Positive Communicationrn* Reaching Out to Employees A combination of these activities helps an organization foster an environment of growth and leadership. For example team-building exercises, instilling leadership development at all levels of organization are some techniques that are used to promote positive leadership. Team building exercises instill a feeling of camaraderie among team members. It also helps in better coordination and understanding. It has been seen that team building exercises that are done outside company premises fetch better results than the in-house one. Many times, these exercises also help in fixing up issues that trouble an organization. For example, if a particular department is not doing well enough, it makes sense to make individuals responsible for their work.
