World Peace Day on The Winter Solstice
World Peace Day occurs on the Winter
Solstice each year.
This year it will fall on Thursday,
December 21st. Don Orne, nthe Coordinator of World Peace Day nsince 1994, invitesneveryone to celebrate the Winter
Solstice with prayer andnmeditation in his or her own way so nthat we all join togethe
as one unified global body.
World Peace Day is a Global celebration nfor all people of
Planet Earth. Imagine people all over nthe world sharing annhour of prayer and song, dance and nchanting, meditation andnritual honoring themselves, their nfamilies --living and dead --ntheir town, country and global family.
Each person brings tonthe celebration the love, compassion nand understanding tonembrace the healing of social, necological and spiritualnchallenges before him/her.
Don traditionally uses his Peace Gong nto honor the Four
Directions and to reverberate Peace nthrough sound andnintention to the entire global ncommunity in conjunction withnothers whose mission is peace and
Light.
It is hoped that the awareness that
World Peace Day is anGlobal Prayer Day as each person prays in his or her own way, will be nenough to shift people'snactions and thoughts from fear to faith, from hatred to compassion, nfrom bitte
ess tontende
ess, from revenge to resonance, from separation to unity, and nfrom emptiness to fullnessnof body, mind, heart, emotion and spirit.
World Peace Day is a time for us all to align our energies and put naside differences whilenhonoring the sacred in one another.
PAST CELEBRATIONS
December 21, 1998 - Marblehead Lighthouse ni
Massachusetts was the site locally that
Don Orne held the 5thnAnnual World Peace Day celebration on
Sunday, Decembe
20th from 7 - 8:00 PM EST. The weather nwas very windy andncold but a cheerful crowd came to the nlighthouse to donceremony and song.
The war in Iraq and the impeachment of the President of the US were nevents that healing focusednon.
Gongmaster for Peace, Don Orne, honored the 4 directions with his 22"
Paiste Symphonic Peace
Gong. The 12 Peace Prayers from the 12 different religions were nrecited. The Great Invocation, nthe Invocation for Peace and the Saint Francis Prayer were recited and nmusic by Elton John and
John Lennon was played.
This group of Emissaries of Light also chanted "Love Be In Me/Love Be
As Me" and recitedntogether the original Lord's Prayer. This prayer is from the Aramaic nand is presented here in itsnentirety:
"And pray every day to your Heavenly Father and Earthly Mother, that nyour soul become as perfectnas your Heavenly Father's holy spirit is perfect, and that your body nbecome as perfect as the bodynof your Earthly Mother is perfect. For if you understand, feel, and do nthe commandments, then allnfor which you pray to your Heavenly Father and your Earthly Mother will nbe given you. For thenwisdom, the love, and the power of God are above all.
After this manner, therefore, pray to your Heavenly Father: Our Father nwhich art in heaven, nhallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it nis in heaven. Give usnthis day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our ndebtors. And lead us not intontemptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the npower, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.
And after this manner pray to your Earthly Mother: Our Mother which art nupon earth, hallowed benthy name. Thy kingdom come, and thy will be done in us as it is in nthee. As thou sendest everynday thy angels, send them to us also. Forgive us our sins, as we atone nall our sins against thee.
And lead us not into sickness, but deliver us from all evil, for thine nis the earth, the body, and thenhealth. Amen.
And they all prayed together with Jesus to the Heavenly Father and to nthe Earthly Mother.
And afterwards Jesus spoke thus to them: "Even as your bodies have been nrebo
through thenEarthly Mother's angels, may your spirit, likewise, be reborn through nthe angels of the Heavenly
Father. Become, therefore, true Sons of your Father and of your Mother, nand true Brothers of thenSons of Men. Till now you were at war with your Father, with your
Mother and with your Brothers.
And you have served Satan. From today live at peace with your Heavenly
Father, and with your
Earthly Mother, and with your Brothers, the Sons of Men. And fight only nagainst Satan, lest he robnyou of your peace. I give the peace of your Earthly Mother to your nbody, and the peace of your
Heavenly Father to your spirit. And let the peace of both reign among nthe Sons of Men."
Don wishes to thank all the millions of people throughout the world who nhave honored the Winter

In previous years, Don has gathered local clergy together under one nroof and a multi-religiousncongregation shared each other's prayers and rituals, giving each other nthe experience of thenbeauty and sameness of each other's beliefs.
In 1996, Don Orne was given permission by the Board of Selectmen in his nhometown in New
England to ring the steeple bells of the Town Hall each year on the
Winter Solstice for fivenminutes in recognition of the importance of World Peace Day.
Through the ages, the Winter Solstice has been honored as the most nsacred day of the year bynvarious cultures in many diverse ways. December 22, 99, the last
Solstice of this millennium is ofngreat importance. It is a full moon and the moon is in perigee at the nsame time. This last occuredni
1866. It is called a plump moon and events will occur in that nfashion around the globe.
Don's vision of a meaningful event that would enhance peace in the nworld occured on Novembe
15, 1994. The idea of gathering all people together in prayer on one nday, the Winter Solstice, ncontinues to develop into a global event. In 1997, Don celebrated it in
Jerusalem. In 1998, Orneninformed the global community via the internet, email, press releases nand "word of mouth" sonthat the event would attract as many as 5 million people. It is hoped nthat one billion by the yea
