Osteoporosis is one of the common bone related disease. In the condition the bone density becomes reduced and bone tissues start thinning. Though the condition can affect both men and women, it is highly diagnosed in the female gender. According to researches it is noted that 1 out of every 5 American female over the age of 50 suffer from osteoporosis. The condition may onset when the body’s ability to form sufficient new bone is hindered and/or significant amount of old bone is absorbed again by the body. It is studied that calcium as well as phosphate are the two crucial mineral important for formations of normal bones. These mineral in the body during the youth helps in producing bone. If your body does not get adequate amount of calcium through diet than your body may suffer from bone relate issues. One can reduce the risk of osteoporosis by understanding its causes and avoiding these factors. Osteoporosis caused due to low estrogen in women: rnEstrogen deficiency in females is considered to be one of the most common causes of osteoporosis. Loss of bone increased after women experience menopause which is when these women have a dramatic reduction in the level of estrogen. The risk of the condition increase through the course of time as these women may lose more bone then what their body forms. Younger women may also suffer from insufficient density of the bone if they have stopped experiencing menstruation, such as in case of skinny athletes or suffering from anorexia. Bilateral Oophorectomy, wherein the ovaries are surgically removed, may also lead to low bone density and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis caused due to low testosterone in men: rnIn case of men both the hormones, testosterone as well as estrogen is essential for bone health. This is because male body transforms the testosterone into estrogen which helps in preserving bone. Hence, when men are being tested for prevalence of osteoporosis they are also diagnosed to check the level of testosterone as well estrogen. Osteoporosis due to other hormonal imbalances;rnThere are various other hormones that play a significant role in regulating the density of your bone. These hormones may include parathyroid hormone, growth hormone etc. These hormones also help in deciding how well your bones can use calcium as well as the development and breakdown of the bones. In case when your body has surplus parathyroid hormones, the condition is referred to as hyperparathyroidism, which may result in loss of calcium through urine. This causes your bone to become weaker. On the other hand along with aging your body produces lesser growth hormones which are also essential for growth of your bones. Apart form the above mentioned hormonal causes of osteoporosis some other causes may include: • Deficiency of calcium • Deficiency of vitamin Drn• Sedentary lifestyle • Thyroid related issues • Smoking • Side effect of medications • Underlying medical conditionrn• Excessive use of alcohol If you suspect that you are at risk of osteoporosis then consult a doctor. This may help you deal with the condition and get relief from associated symptoms. If you are not already affected with the condition then avoiding the aforementioned factor can help in maintaining your bone density and prevent osteoporosis.
