Masters of Business Administration or more popularly known as an MBA is a globally recognised degree course for both professionals as well as freshers that paves the way for a brighter future. However, it isn’t an easy task to crack written entrance exams like CAT to advance further only to face an even tougher competition in the personal interview and a group discussion round. Apart from hard work and dedication, a well-planned strategy is very important to book yourself a seat in one of the top B-schools like IIMs, FMS, IIFT,etc in the country. An MBA degree can open doors for some really big opportunities and can even guide individuals to positions as high as CEO, CTO, COO,etc. But like all good things require planning and hardwork, getting into the best B-schools also asks for the same. Here we will be discussing the right approach one needs for MBA Admissions, right from the time one starts his/her preparation for the entrance exam to the time s/he finally gets a seat in one of the premier colleges. How to prepare well for MBA Entrance Exam: Written Exam Qualifying the written exam is the first priority of every MBA aspirant and also the first step towards their dream job. Most of the MBA entrance exams have a very similar pattern and consist of the following sections: Quantitative Aptitude: This section covers basic arithmetic problems like profit and loss, percentages, ratio, averages, 5-6 digit multiplication, etc. However, you’ll need to speeden up your calculations to score well in this section. Logical Reasoning: This section tests a candidate’s ability to think logically and involves questions like drawing inferences, brainteasers, blood relations, coding-decoding,etc. Reading Comprehension Test: This section as the name suggests involves reading comprehension and then answering questions based on the same passage. To score good in this section you’ll need to have a clear understanding of grammar basics like tenses, nouns, adjectives, etc. General Awareness: This section includes questions that test a candidate’s knowledge regarding current affairs, Science, History, Geography, Business, etc. Group Discussion Candidates who have scored above the cutoff marks and qualified for the next round are then called for the next round which is a Group Discussion round that tests a candidate’s communication skills as well as other skills like teamwork involved to reach a common conclusion. A group of students are given a topic wherein each candidate has to put forward his/her opinion and state facts to prove them. These topics are mainly divided into four sections that are:
  • Business and Economy
  • Social Issues
  • Current Affairs
  • Abstract Topics
Personal Interview This is the final round of the selection procedure which is a face to face interview with the selection panel. PI is the final and also the most important round since it focuses on a candidate’s overall personality. From confidence to the leadership qualities, every quality is judged upon by the panel before they make their final decision of letting a candidate in on the MBA Admissions. Summing Up: If you're an MBA aspirant remember that each section is equally important and topics as small as tenses are as important as your answer to ‘why an MBA?’ during the PI round. So, prepare well for all the sections and get closer to your dream job.
