One of the difficulties of creating business systems is that there is a learning curve. You will make mistakes, you will learn what does and does not work by trial and error, and you will lose both time and money.
There are things that you can do that can help you minimize time and money lost to your business as you develop great systems for your business. I suggest finding a great coach or a mentor to help you.
When I began, I spent a lot of time working with the Small Business Technology Center out of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In partnership with the US Small Business Administration, their mission is to provide counseling and training services to startup and small businesses via one-on-one sessions, online training and by providing resources, including helping to procure financing. Most states have them and you can find one locally by Googling ‘Small Business Administration.’
If you are a bigger business and you are relatively successful or you have a couple of processes and you are making money and you need more help, hiring a business coach is good idea.
The benefits of having a coach are many. In George Leonard’s book “Mastery”, his first key of mastering any skill is the Principle of Instruction. He writes that people should find a guide to help them progress in the skill of their choosing. It saves you time by leveraging skills that others have already mastered and are willing to show you.
There are a number of business coaches in the world. You may want to find somebody who has experience in your area or in your particular type of systems design. Let them know you have noticed that you have some operational challenges. Ask them to help you get to that next level. Ask how they will be able to do that.
My approach to coaching is this: I want to explore the successful aspects of your life, the things that you have already accomplished, whether business or personal. They are a blueprint of how you succeed.
Once we have recognized the behaviors, we can create a map of how you create success and begin to apply it to the goals that you want to achieve. By bringing the successful habits and beliefs that you already have into your new endeavors we can create a sustainable plan for your success.
