Overcoming polycystic ovarian syndrome
PCOS is one of the common problems in women marked mainly by amenorrhea, hirsutism, excessive weight gain or obesity, infertility, and ovarian expansion. The syndrome is usually triggered by the upsurge in the level of male hormones (androgen) or estrogen, which results in an abnormal cycle of gonadotropin production by the pituitary gland. PCOS is also called as polycystic ovary disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, polycystic ovarian disease, Stein-Leventhal syndrome.
The Support, PCOS Awareness program, is all about the encouragement of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It is an initiative to help women to overcome PCOS. The support PCOS awareness is dedicated to spreading the awareness of this disorder worldwide by providing educational and support services to women. And also, to make them understand what the disease is and how it can be treated. The awareness program includes support in diagnosing the disorder at the right time without delaying. The diagnosis of PCOS at the right time will help women overcome the syndrome and efficiently reduce the influence on the other health problems.
Over half of the 10,000,000 women who have the syndrome are unaware of it is the main reason why it is important to support PCOS awareness.
PCOS awareness helps women to understand that symptoms like irregular periods and pelvic pain are not something that should be ignored. Getting it checked is obligatory. While there is no cure for PCOS, there are treatments that can help in recovering the stress and complications of the few symptoms.
A main fundamental problem with polycystic ovarian syndrome is that it occurs because of hormonal imbalance. In women with PCOS, the ovaries produce excessive androgens than average. Androgens are male hormones that females also produce. Increased levels of these hormones disturb the development and production of eggs during the time of ovulation.
Researchers think that insulin might have a connection with PCOS. Insulin is a hormone that regulated the change of sugar, starches, and other food particles into the form of energy for the body to further use or store. Many women with PCOS have excessive insulin in their bodies because they have difficulty in consuming it. Excess insulin triggers to increase in the production of androgen. High androgen levels can lead to various problem like:
• Acne
• Hirsutism (excessive hair growth)
• Obesity or excessive weight gain
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is one of the most common endocrine disorders, and it is also one of the essential reasons for infertility in women. It affects female fertility and has been felt to such a degree that the whole month of September is selected PCOS Awareness Month.
The Symptoms of PCOS, typically include:
• Irregularity in the menstrual cycle, either few menstrual periods or complete lack of it.
• Metabolic syndrome (obesity) or excessive weight gain
• The extreme production of androgens (male hormones)
• Infertility instigated by lack of ovulation (anovulation)
The field of assisted reproduction identifies PCOS is something that every woman should be more informed about. Support PCOS Awareness program gives women the chance to share their own experiences related to PCOS. It also helps in educating women not to get affected by the disease. This can only happen when they get diagnosed with the syndrome at the right time. As a result of the proper diagnoses at the right time, the doctors will have a better chance of treating it in its early stages.
