Oxycotin is a narcotic drug used or pain relief. You get an opiate-like feeling just like morphine. Most of the people who use this drug develop the same kind of dependence and abuse like morphine. Oxycotin in Canada exists in various forms and names. It is available as oral, combination preparations and controlled-oral versions. The trade names of the drug include Oxycocet, Endocet, Supeudol and Oxycotin. The drug is usually marketed along with ASA or acetaminophen acting as a pain reliever and known as Percodan or Percocet. Some six years ago the 80 mg and 10 mg tablet was approved by the Health Canada and sold under the name of Oxycotin. However, it was soon realized that the tablet when used in the crushed form or chewed could produce a heroine-like effect. So it was known as Hillbilly Heroin and used mostly in the rural and poor regions of the US. An oxycontin in canada became a huge problem especially, in the Atlantic provinces. About 2.8 million prescriptions for the drug were dispensed by the pharmacists in 2003. And, more than about 100 people died by using this drug in Ontario, which was about 10 times a decade ago. Oxycotin acts as a pain reliever when used according to the prescriptions. But oxycotin overdose is dangerous and can cause various complications. It depresses the central nervous system by stimulating the brain's opioid receptors. This triggers the release of some chemicals that can erase your pain and create a feeling of euphoria. When the drug is taken for a number of days continuously your body develops tolerance to it. So you will have to use more and more to get the required effect. When you keep increasing the amount of the drug it causes an Oxycotin overdose. Most of the people who are addicted to this drug feel frustrated when they are not able to get the exact feeling they need. This makes them to take too much of the drug to overcome their tolerance level. This results in various complications like coma, cardiac arrest and even death. The drug is designed in the form of a slow release formula. However, if you do not take it according to the prescription it can result in oxycontin overdose especially, if you take it by crushing it instead of swallowing. When you do this your body receives the full dose immediately instead of the slow release. This results in fatal oxycotin overdose. If you have some close friend or relative who is addicted to oxycotin you should be able to recognize it and provide the required help immediately to overcome it. Some of the signs include cold and clammy skin, shallow breathing, vomiting, nausea, fatigue and confusion. Some of the symptoms also include falling into coma, a lapse of consciousness and seizures. The only way to prevent addiction is to stop using the drug.
